sorry guys. it can’t be changed. you can complain, but you’ll have to go to another site if you don’t want to use it. this is a vender enforced interface change. the drop down mode is going to deprecated now that the legacy menu is not supported or used.
it’s also almost identical to the mobile view except that in desktop you can collapse and expand manually, whereas in mobile the menu slides out. in a future update, i think the hamburger icon in mobile view will be moved to the left from the right to be like the desktop view. the idea is that both mobile and desktop views be as close as possible functionally, despite the mobile view being simpler visually.
also as i’ve stated before in other places, the reason for the changes happening quickly recently is because they were actually made a year ago by the vendor and not enabled on this site. the vendor is phasing those things out. i could have waited a few more months for the sidebar but i do not ever want to make significant changes like that during football season(s).
the new sidebar menu is very customizable for your own purposes

if any of you want some help setting up your own links on the sidebar menu, you can pm me. other users cannot see your custom links.
btw, i’m ok with you guys complaining and even giving critical feedback or suggestions here. that’s what i’m here for. it’s just important to note that it cannot be rolled back and this is the direction the vendor for this forum software is going. i sympathize with users and totally understand the difficulty and frustration with coming here and it being different after so long. and i believe it’s important for you users to have an outlet to express your feelings on it. i’m not going to flag your post or delete it or even be angry if you tell me you hate it. it’s here to stay though, and i think you will be ok with it once you get used to it.
