World Juniors

The prices are actual slight cheaper than what they were in Buffalo and they had no trouble selling out the Canadian games. Place the game in Hamilton, and they would sell out quickly.

Wow! Tickets were that expensive in Buffalo? How much were they charging? The Canada games in Montreal for round robin play ranged from $78 - $343.

Attendance at the world junior tournament has been disappointing at the Bell Centre, in part due to high ticket prices. The largest crowd in Montreal was for the New Year’s Eve game with 18,295 in attendance to watch Canada beat the U.S., with ticket prices ranging from $78 to $343, according to the Hockey Canada website.

Tickets for Friday’s quarterfinal games at the Bell Centre range in price from $83 to $278, according to the Hockey Canada website.

The gold medal game $125 - $405 a pop.

Tickets in Buffalo were much lower priced than what they are in Toronto and Montreal. I bought 4 full packages in row 2 in the corner just below the goal line. Great seats and they cost me just over $800 per seat for 21 games or just under $40 per game. The package included 21 of the 31 tournament games including all Canada games, all USA games, key games from the other pool, all quarter final, semi final and medal games.

The same seat in Toronto is about 4X the price, gets you fewer games, and doesn't get you Canada's round robin games. For the price I paid in Buffalo you're sitting in purples at the ACC and getting fewer and less desirable games. The difference is the size of the market you pull from in Toronto and the number of and depth of corporate buyers. You can't charge the same prices in a Buffalo and you'd never fill the building in Hamilton at the prices they're charging in Toronto.

Probably true that a lot of the ticket packages in Toronto were bought by corporations. I ran into a cousin of mine at the ACC last Friday at the Czech - Sweden game. He was there with his son and he mentioned the tickets he had were ‘company seats’ that he had for that game and one of the quarter-finals.

Looking very good for Canada to make it to the Gold Medal game now as they will be up against Slovakia in one semi-final and they will meet the winner of Sweden - Russia in the final. I’m already getting excited for the game Monday - assuming we do beat Slovakia.

I’m sure a Canada- Russia final would be through the roof ratings wise. Already TSN ratings have been fantastic.
Check out the top sports ratings from last weekend where the World Juniors destroyed everything including HNIC. And these numbers don’t even include the New Years Eve USA game yet.

Turned on the game tonight and 5-0 Canada, switched the channel, figured it would be a blowout. The Russia-US game earlier on was a lot better of course.

Canada better bring their A Game because the Russians look very good.

Canucks vs Ruskies

Should be a great game.

The television numbers are going to go off the roof, for a Canadian audience, for this one tonight I bet.

can't get any better than a Rusky's vs Canucklehead's Gold medal match!!!

GO CANADA GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And no NFL or anything sports to go up agains't, a recipe for huge numbers. Well maybe the NHL, not sure what NHL is on the tely tonight in Canada.

Does it even matter?

You have a big NFL game on or the Leafs, that will take away a significant amount of viewers even for this game, IMHO. The Grey Cup has to compete for viewers with NFL Sunday, that will take away a fair amount of potential solid football fans.

The boys did it and Richard Nurse player of the game! Congrats Canada and congrats to Team Russia for a gritty comeback that almost did it.

Oops, Darnell, my bad.

Also congrats to the Slovakian team for beating the Swedes for the Bronze medal earlier in the day. They beat some pretty big powerhouses like Finland and the Czechs to win the Bronze. Their goaltender was Tournament MVP, and they never gave up.

Some pictures I took at last night's games.

This one probably my favourite just as Canada's 5th and eventual Gold Medal winning goal was scored.

Now you know why we like Darnell so much here in the Sault!

 Too bad he can't show his talent in front of a Hamilton home crowd. But that's a different story and how hockey and politics in this city have shut out that possibility, sadly.

Sorry but we won’t share  However, soon enough we too will only be able to see him when he plays for the Oilers. Be thankful in the knowledge that he, as I, am a Hamiltonian at heart and I’m sure that we share the same love for our Cats!

Wow! What ratings for last night’s game.
