Thought I would start this thread now since this selection camp invitees were named today. Canada has lots of returnees this year. If I’m not mistaken they only had two last year. Always an exciting event!
Quinten Musty got snubbed. Heard he wasn’t on the list before he broke his hand.
Serves him right for how he acted to start the OHL season. Can you say Diva?
I know it’s OHL, but young unproven players are starting to do more of this. Both the Flyers and the Jets last year had to trade a high first round draft pick who hadn’t played a game yet because he said he would never play for them. Shades of Eric Lindros. The fact that it is starting in junior hockey isn’t good. I agree with you that it serves him right not being invited to the junior team camp.
Grier deserves a big pat on the back for this one. Good move putting the donkey on ice for asking for a trade. Let him rot and not play for a few months - or longer.
Team Canada tends to be better when they have more WHL players and fewer Easterners anyway.
Oh yeah?
Always love watching these games, but something special about the overseas ones…where you get up early and tune in.
It is short and sweet. My attention span after 70 is very little. The pro leagues are all too lengthy, too many teams, not enough talent. Like everything in life— we pay too much for too little. The youngsters play for the beauty of the game. The pro play for millions$$
What the kids may lack in talent compared to the pros, they make up for in heart. Plus the games tend to be fast, which is what I really like in hockey.
And even with it being the best of their age-group, youngsters tend to make more mistakes (both minor and major) and that tends to result in more excitement
The speed of the game is what make it exciting to me. It’s just the international referees never learned “let them play”.
Just call the “you did whatever to the guy because you got beat” stuff and we should be good.
Usually they have opened the tournament with a suspension to a Canadian for a hit lately so coaches need to tell them to tone it down at the start of the tournament.
Exactly why I like the OHL so much but cannot get into the NHL for the life of me.
Junior tournament updates:
Selection camp starts tomorrow.
And for one of our top competitors:
An update on camp so far:
Today’s update:
Canada wins first game against U Sports team after trailing early. Second and final game is at Noon Eastern today. Would love to watch it but it is in the middle of the work day. Cuts down to the 25 man roster expected immediately after the game or by tomorrow at the latest.
Final roster has been named:
A couple of head scratchers made the team. There will always be those players cut every year that gets fans upset, oh well.
Let’s hope they play an exciting game, and kick butt along the way!
