Normally this tournament isn’t of much interest to many, but I thought it might be this year with Crosby and Mackinnon playing and Fleury making his final appearance. Coach of the year Evason at the helm. Starts Friday.
Mackinnon will play starting Friday:
The US also trying to encourage their stars to come out in an Olympic year:
More horses for Canada at the world’s including Binnington:
First game for Canada is tomorrow.
At this point, I can’t keep track of how many “World Championships” for hockey there are this year.. I just seemed like last week there was one…
This one is annual and for Canada consists of mostly NHL players that didn’t make the playoffs or were eliminated early and plenty of NHL players for other countries as well. This one is more interesting than usual because of the higher end stars competing and because many more upper echelon players tend to play in an Olympic year to increase their chances of making their Olympic teams.
The 4 Nations Cup business I think you are referring to, while entertaining, only involved players from 4 countries and was missing many of the top players in the world and was the first tournament of it’s kind since 2016. This annual tournament involves many more top players and more countries, although both exclude Russia/Belarus.
Think you may be refering to the “under 18” tournament that was going on the past couple of weeks?
As expected canada beat Slovenia 4-0 yesterday.
For these interested they play Slovenia in about 20 minutes at 10:20 Eastern.
Canada wins easily again. Watched about half of it. Hard to see how Fleury got player of the game in a 7-1 rout. I guess out of respect for his long career.
Perhaps a bit of a surprise, although Switzerland finished second last year I believe. good news for Canada though.
As expected Canada beats the home of the Coneheads.
Canada and their toughest opening round opponent Finland about to start on TSN 1 and 4. Fleury staring over Binnington and Saros starting for Finland.
Hungary vs Norway on TSN 2 with Norway facing relegation. Curiously Dan Robertson and Kevin Sawyer, Jets broadcasters, are calling that game. Look for Sawyer to cheer on the team who has a player whose mother once dated someone from Winnipeg.
Not much else on today as we honour Queen Victoria.
The write up on Canada’s first loss.
Two character laden Jets join their teams. Ehlers in particular is important as he will instantly become Denmark’s best player and they are facing elimination. Niederreiter could help put the Swiss over the top.
Canada rolling along nicely with a win against Sweden to finish in first. Their first playoff opponent will be the less than formidable Denmark team featuring Nik Ehlers.
The US ousts the tough Finns.
Canada playing Denmark right now in what isn’t expected to be a close game.
What happened ? Did not watch the game but this seems like a bit of a shocker.
cherry danish turnovers are delicious
Neither did I see the game. One of the greatest upsets of all time. The Canadians outshot them 30-11 over the first two periods, but were outshot 22-10 in the third. Inexplicable, especially considering how many top flight players such as Mackinnon and Crosby the Canadians had and also Binnington in net.
