UPDATE
ADVISORY:
The #BCLions, CFL and City of Victoria will make a special announcement on Wednesday at 11:30 am at the Victoria Conference Centre: 720 Douglas St.
Looks like it. My guess is Toronto at BC in Victoria.
Let’s see if you’re right. Would be a good choice.
Or BC at Toronto
Didn’t think of that scenario. Just assumed BC would be the home team. I guess we will find out tomorrow.
Yes but I don’t see BC wanting to give up a home date that would surely draw more than what will come out in Victoria.
The Argos losing a home game isn’t that big of a loss since about 12,000 fans come out anyways
Sorry, my first thought was you were saying the game would be in Toronto. Just not thinking properly today. LOL!
TD pacific is kinda dumb IMO
Already have a team there
According to @Mightygoose the Argos have sent out info on the 2024 season already to season ticket holders. They are claiming that there will be 9 regular season home games. There is the off chance that the CFL will get rid of pre-season games and go with 20 regular season games but seems unlikely.
I believe the league is just trying to promote the themselves in other areas of the country.
Understood, but not much need to promote themselves when there is already a team there…
Stick to the east coast, find a group that wants a team
I agree with your basic point but I also understand that Victoria is Doman’s home town, he wants to help grow football on the island so a) they’ll make the trip to Vancouver and b) they want to have a back up plan in case they can’t use BC Place in 2026 due to the World Cup.
If they don’t have a neutral site game in the east this year, it’s another silly move by the CFL.
Never thought about the World Cup so that’s another positive point about trying it in Victoria. I’m not sure you also need an east game site on neutral ground but if they do so much the better.
Although I still believe tomorrow’s announcement is about a neutral site game what if it’s not and it’s dealing with the Grey Cup next year and Victoria being involved in someway. Just throwing a curve ball into the mix. LOL!
If you mean 2 teams other than BC played in BC, I agree
It’s the CFL that is claiming that they “need” a 10th team. If that is true then they should have a neutral site game. If not then it’s more “want” than “need”. If they take a year off for example then they are delaying expansion by another year.
The 9 regular season home games is more than a claim. They would have has a higher average last year without TDA so it makes no sense for them to be the TDP host plus an extra west coast trip.
Edmonton makes more sense as the host. Maybe Calgary or it could be the Lions pre season game
Although Ambrosie is hot on Halifax I think he knows that ship is taking on water more and more every day. Quebec City is his next city on the list but I think there a lot of issues to overcome there. I would like to see the ALS play a game there to test the waters. Probably Ottawa would be a good choice for an opponent. In an interview with Donnie and Dhali about a month ago he was firing off all the reasons why Quebec City would make an excellent choice.
As much as these “Touchdown” games are about expansion it also gives people in other parts of the country to experience first hand a game. It only helps to bolster the CFL image country wide. I remember when I was a kid and the Maple Leafs would come to town to take on the WHL Canucks. We all thought that we were the king of the castle. It did a lot for morale back in those days for my friends and myself.
No I was referring to the Grey Cup being hosted in Vancouver and like Hamilton maybe they will include Victoria in the festivities.
Can’t see Edmonton or Calgary hosting. 2022 Toronto was the worst draw for the regular season so it makes the most sense for the Lions to give up that home game. I will concede that a home pre-season game for the Lions could happen but I doubt Victoria would pay the Lions big money for that kind of thing as that is most likely part of the deal.
