A day late but not a dollar short, I thought it would be appropriate to start this thread. Canada will almost certainly end up in the final against the US. Below is a tournament preview from a Canadian point of view.
Canada beat Switzerland yesterday evening 4-0. they next play Czechia tomorrow. Czechia finished third at the last tournament.
i wish the women could get a unified pro league going. it would fil the gap for the majority of fans who can’t afford to go to nhl games. the nhl needs to get more behind the women’s hockey initiatives.
They have tried and so far failed. A matter of money. Not enough interest from fans unfortunately.
The NHL does support women’s hockey financially but obviously not enough to underwrite the losses of an entire league. I don’t know offhand how much financial support the NHL gives women’s hockey at present but would be interested to find out.
Canada beats the US in a shootout to take first place.
The US sent the game to OT with less than 4 seconds left and the shootout went 9 rounds. I noticed something that I hadn’t seen before. Canada shot first for the mandatory first 5 rounds of the shootout but the shooting order was reversed for the sudden death portion after the 5th round and Canada gained the last shot advantage.
