WNBA Strikes It Rich With $2 Billion in Media-Rights Deals

“ The reported agreements with ESPN, Amazon, and NBC more than triples the league’s existing media-rights money, with the potential for more to come. Currently, the league pulls down $60 million from its rights partners annually. The new deals total $200 million per year, and give the league significant room to earn more than that.”

Why???!!!

Good for them but I still would never watch the WNBA, but I guess young girls are influential and advertisers will throw their money at it.

Good for them. I’m not a basketball fan, but have been tuning into some WNBA games. Who knows, maybe I’ll even take in a Liberty game in person at some point

Range for WNBA salaries is somewhat like what CFL salaries are not including QB’s. Per team, the salary cap in the WNBA is just under $1.5 million. Media rights increasing by 3x or maybe even 4x to me equals inevitable labor dispute as the players have historically complained that the salary cap as a percentage of revenue is unusually low.

The saddest part of the WNBA is that most women don’t care about it. Last I looked it was losing money every year. Plus it’s an NBA subsidized league.

Last year the average attendance per team ranged from 4300 to 9500. Plus the tickets are much cheaper than the NBA.

Why??
The single only reason is that people supplying two billion know they will make $$$$$$$$$$ and then some
