With Large Crowds In The Past, Why Don’t The Argos Receive More Fan Support

A 6% increase approximately 900 . I that’s better than the opposite, but my god the bar is set really low. You want something to sound big use percentages.

Oh, for the days of 50,000, or even those of 30…as at least we’d be selling out a great football field. I hated football in the Skydome!

Yet everyone was screaming to move to BMO field. What happened?

Great question!

Ownership certainly played a part with one owner more interested in bringing the Bills North rather than supporting a once proud, well-supported Canadian franchise

They started reporting attendance based on scanned instead of sold and distributed as most sports teams in North America do.

That’s why it declined after they moved there

Fans were screaming for more weekend games, what happened? Fans were screaming for MLSE to buy the Argos and they did what happened ? Fans wanted Pinball and Marc Tresman running the team What happened? Excuse after excuse, I’m surprised know one is say it’s because of the price of eggs in China.

I think it’s because of the price of eggs in China personally.

So why, in your opinion, have we been struggling at the bottom of the league in attendance; why aren’t more fans coming out?

It’s better than any other excuse

Do you know, and you probably do, in 95% of the sports shops IN THE FRICKEN GTA you can’t find a single piece of Argos merchandise?!

I think the biggest thing is the Argos and the CFL in general are looked at as minor league and their profile declined as more teams from bigger leagues came to the city. It started with the Blue Jays arrival.

The same thing happened to the OHL here.

As far as why were last in the league for attendance? I would love to see the other teams scanned figures.

I’d say even more

Okay, that might go towards explaining the drop from 50-30, but they were still drawing 30,000 in the 90’s and mid 2000’s, 20-30 years after the Blue Jays arrived on the scene and 30,000 during the decade in which the Jays won two World Series.

…and Argos aside, I’d love to see more than two teams making a profit!

They had a good size bump 2004 through 2009 give or take.

Best atmospheres I have been to for games on a regular basis.

That was during the Cynamon and Sukalowski (sp.) ownership days. It’s speculated they did a lot of give aways during that time. I don’t know how true that was but it was but it declined heavily after Braley took over but he kept the lights on.

So it’s not like Bell or MLSE took over the team in a high place. There were mistakes made along the way that didn’t help but most organizations will make those.

A few years ago, I drove to Toronto from Illinois for an Argos game. The first thing I did was to go to a big sports store in a mall. Nothing.
Then I went to Canadian Tire. I saw two shirts, both mediums (I’m an XL).
Of course, they had shirts at the game but I want to wash shirts before I wear them.
