Winnipeg will travel to Ottawa to kick off Week 2 of the CFL Season.
The game starts at 7:30 pm EST with TSN pregame at 7 pm.
Here are some fun facts found in the media notes for tonight’s game;
- All-Time Gm #83: This game will be the 83rd in their rivalry played across 1961 to 2024 when CFL ‘interlocking’ play began. Winnipeg leads 49 wins to 32 (one tie) and have won 25 of the 43 games played at Ottawa (25-18).
- The Redblacks and Bombers played each other once in 2023 with Ottawa winning 31 28 at TD Place. The win was their first over Winnipeg since 2018 and snapped a 5-game losing streak vs the Blue Bombers. The 19 point comeback matched Ottawa’s largest (also from -19 pts in 2017 at BC) since a 23 point comeback in 2005 vs Montreal.
- Dru Brown: Starts 2024 as Ottawa’s #1 QB after 3 seasons in Winnipeg. He has 3 career starts and is 2-1 overall.
- Dru Brown - A Remarkable TD Rate: Brown brings a 14 career TD passes in just 153 attempts. Though early for his career, that is an incredible 1 TD in every 10.9 pass attempts. Since 1960 among ALL QBs with 150+ passes, that is #1 all-time. Winnipeg’s Jim Van Pelt (40 TDs, 460 Atts) is #2 at 1 in 11.5 passes. For context, Zach Collaros has 1 in every 18.4 atts.
- Season Opening Defeat - Back to 2012 & 1999: The loss last week was the first time since 2018 that the Blue Bombers dropped a season opener. They won in all 4 openers from 2019 to 2023. It was their largest season opening loss since a 17- point defeat to BC in 2012. It was Winnipeg’s largest season opener loss AT HOME since 1999.
- Bye in Week #1: The Redblacks did not play in Week #1 - that was their first Week #1 bye since 2018.
- Looking for 3 in a row: The Blue Bombers won their final two road games of 2023 and look to make it 3 in a row. They have won 4 of their last 5 visits to Ottawa.
- Experienced Ottawa Roster: The Redblacks’ roster is full of CFL experience to start 2024. They have just 7 first-year players and 32 members of their roster have played at least 30 career CFL games.
- Success vs the West in 2023: All 4 of Ottawa’s wins last season came against West Division clubs. They were 0-10 vs the East.
- Dalton Schoen: Has made at least one reception in all 35 of his career regular season games
- ‘Return’ of Devonte Dedmon: Dedmon played just 2 games last year due to injury and looks to rebound in 2024. In 24 career games to date, he has 5 career kick return TDs already (3 punts, 2 kickoffs).
- Brady Oliveira: Went over the career 3000 yd rushing mark last week with 38 yards on just 11 carries. In the 2nd Half of last week’s game, he made just 2 carries for 3 yards.
I hope everyone enjoys the game!
