Will this be the end of Corey Holmes in Hamilton?

Hear me out here, before taking my head off.

With the under-utilization of Corey Holmes, and the (dare I say it) poor play by Corey Holmes both this year and last, the emergence of Jesse Lumsden as our premier RB, and a promising receiving corps it looks as if Corey MAY become expendable.

Does he have any trade-value? Let's look at some points:

  1. Not a starting RB.
  2. Low production on P/K returns (gotta blame the blocking schemes [scams] here).
  3. This game (at least) he mis-handled three punts.
  4. We cannot seem to find a way to get him the ball.
  5. Cannot seem to block.

With a 3+1 contract (at a reportedly high salary), can we afford to keep a backup RB with the SMS in place? Could Bob's money be better spent?

These are questions that should be asked and answered.

Maas and Holmes for Burris?

No, if he had trade value, he would already have been gone. Everybody else has plenty of people who are capable of not returning punts.

Am I pointing out the obvious here - DUDE IS NOT FAST!! Lumsden takes enough licks, how about Bauman back there?

I my opinion, if the Cats could trade Corey Holmes right now for a starting DE, I would pull the trigger on that one. We got zero production out of Holmes as a KR tonight, and zero pressure on the opposing QB (except for McKay Loesher).

Has Corey even begun in Hamilton?

Low production on P/R: if anyone can see how anyone could have production with the blocking we're getting, that would be helpful.

Re his blocking: that ISN'T his strongsuit. It wasn't Rufus Crawford's (hence his shift to SB), wasn't Amerson's... it is an issue when his exclusivity is mop-up HB detail, straight up. As a slot, whoopdidoo.

Cannot seem to find a way to get him the ball: that may be more of a timeshare issue than anything else. To have him stand on the sidelines series after series is a disgrace.

Note to the marketing department: do not promote a backup if at all possible. It makes the dichotomy between the commercials and the on-field product kinda ridiculous.

Of course I am being flippant here. It's the personnel choices that are at issue.

A 1-6 team takes a MVP finalist from 2005 and completely farts his impact away AGAIN.

Oski Wee Wee,

Well I have stated my own personal opinions as to why Corey isn't playing as much as some think he should be, so I personally agree with your post.

But I do think he has a role as a locker room leader for the Ticats. Now, after the season I would definately consider cutting him and getting his salary off of the books. Or even near the end of the season they should consider getting something in return for him.

If Holmes was available or released I would love to see him in a Bomber uniform as our returner.

Corey Holmes seems pretty slow and is overrated. He doesn't do much when he gets a chance and hasn't proven to be someone to design plays for.

Okay trade us Edwards ...

Yeah, but would you trade Gavin Walls or Tom Canada . . . . Your return game is about the Same with AJIII.

No, if he had trade value, he would already have been gone. Everybody else has plenty of people who are capable of not returning punts.
The announcers said that he is 7th in the league in all-purpose yards this year... plus given he was MVP of the West 1.5 years ago, I am sure he has trade value.

Holmes would go to any other team and be a star. And kill us the first time he plays against us. Note Peterson tonight. `He's not good enough for our team but he sure killed us tonight. Hamilton and Maas have a way of destroying good football players, or cutting them so they can kill the Cats on another team. Mark my words, Rocky Butler will make us wish we kept him and cut Maas before this season is finished.

No one will take Holmes because no one needs him, every team is set at running back and no one will want his 200k salary for a guy that averages 3 yards a return.

25 regular season and 4 pre-season are not enough of a start?

Note my comment about the "blocking scams". Didn't care to read about his mis-playing the punts?

Too bad, a RB should be able to block.

Then trade/cut him.

I agree whole-heartedly.

I'm with Sigpig on this one...

Holmes is simply not Big/Good enough to play running back and the receivers we have are just better than him for holmes to play slot back thats why he doesn't play. 2005 special teams player of the year because thats all he will ever be I'm sorry to all the Holmes fans but he just doesn't get it done.

With our (weak)O-line we need a guy like Lumsden to power threw the first hit, with holmes he likes to dance too much before running.

Kori Dickerson can block better than holmes so hes not going anywhere Ralph and Curry are just better receivers than holmes flat out.

I like Holmes but there is just no place on our team for him and we should atleast look to trade him for someone we can use.

Time for him to go, why keep a guy that isn't fitting in with your team. A guy like Jo Jo or anybody that can catch and run can do the same thing he is doing at a greatly reduced cost!

Too bad though, doesn't seem like a trouble maker and it really isn't his fault that he doesn't have a full time spot in the offense

HAHA.. Good one.. Edwards is starting to show that he was one of the biggest off season signings this past year...

He has been outstanding. You want Chris Brazell back?

I would trade Holmes for Brazzell. I can't remember ever seeing Corey make a play this year. And I've never seen him break a tackle. Brazzell showed more speed chasing Milt down during the Miracle at the Commonwealth than I have ever seen from Holmes.

Of course, so did Doug Berry!!

No one will take Holmes because no one needs him, every team is set at running back and no one will want his 200k salary for a guy that averages 3 yards a return.
He isnt making 200k i am sure and again, given his history - pretty recent history as MVP of West - I am sure teams would want him.
