I am getting so sick of the attitudes of some fans (bandwagon/fairweather fans) saying things like it's time to look at next season or some crap like that or fire Lapo and Mack and time for an overhaul .... LISTEN UP BANDWAGON JUMPERS:
Firing a coach and/or GM 9 games into the first season is premature and flat out stupid, what do you suggest we do fire an re-hire EVERY freakin' season? I am sick of going that route .... WE STICK BY LAPO AND MACK and WE WILL TURN THIS TEAM AROUND ----- Lapo and Mack took over a team that Bauer, Taman and Kelly dismembered over the past few years and we all KNEW THIS going into this season, cannot build a champion overnight and if it doesn't work this season AT LEAST the pieces are in place and the right moves/adjustments will and can be made to improve in 2011 and on!!!
------ History lesson: Ritchie took over a team that finished 4-14 in '97, 3-15 in '98
Ritchie went 6-12 in '99 (i believe was the Year Ritchie took over), 7-10-1 in 2000 and went to the Grey Cup, 14-4 in 2001, 12-6 in 2002, 11-7 in 2003 (not sure when he was fired but i believe it was 2004 when Daley took over and we all know what happened after that, 2 miserable seasons) ------
Berry took over that horrible 2 year stretch and finished his first year at 9-9 in 2006, 10-7-1 in 2007 and came an eyelash away from the GC, 8-10 in 2008 but still made playoffs and was fired ..... We all know what 2009 and Kelly did ... lol .... NOW WE HAVE LAPO IN HIS FIRST YEAR WHICH IN REALITY HE TOOK OVER A TEAM IN COMPLETE SHAMBLES ---- JUST PROOF THAT PATIENCE CAN PAY OFF!!
This season is not a write-off there is still 9 games left and this team is starting to come together and show signs of being ready to win some games and we know we lost a few games by an eyelash, bad call, drops whatever and people say "coulda, shoulda, woulda" and i understand we cannot look back with that attitude and the truth is we lost those games, TRUE but during those games that we "shoula, coulda, woulda won" The team showed no giving up and flashes of what is yet to come, sure they were not wins but the team SHOWED that they can compete with ANY team, which brings me to my third point.
Our final 9 games are all winable games and the Bombers hold the playoff future in there hands and i think will pull it off and turn this season around, Saskatchewan we can beat.
-- We play Toronto twice and in my opinion T.O is crashing back to reality and the inexperience is catching up with them and they are not a good team, so passing them or tying them in the standings by pulling off a solid second half and winning those two games (more importantly the tie breaker) IS NOT out of the quesion.
-- We play BC TWICE and Edmonton Once (all winnable games) and the Back 2 Back with BC WILL go a long way to determine a crossover spot.
-- Montreal twice and Calgary once --- i think we can split with MTL and CGY is the last game when they SHOULD be resting there player's.
I read somewhere tht making the playoffs is poinless, now that is the dumbest comment i have ever read as anything can happen in the playoffs, sure we may not beat Saskatchewan in a crossover game (but imagine the thought of that game, wow) or Hamilton or MTL in the first round but maing the playoffs gives us a second chance a second season if you will AND it also gives the young player's a taste of CFL playoff action which will only make them more hungry in 2011 PLUS give the players and fans more hope for the next few seasons.
SO EVERY GAME IS IMPORTANT FROM THIS POINT ON AND I BELIEVE THIS SHIP CAN BE TURNED AROUND, LET'S ALL STICK BY OUR TEAM, OUR COACHES AND PLAYER'S AND SHOW THEM WE SUPPORT THEM AND ENJOY THE FINAL 9 GAMES BECAUSE WE ARE FAR FROM OUT OF IT AND IF THE BANDWAGON JUMPERS/FAIRWEATHER FANS DON'T BELIEVE THAT IS FINE STAY HOME THAN AS YOU DO NOT BELONG WITH THE TRUE BOMBER FANS AT THE STADIUM ANYWAY'S ... I KNOW I'LL BE THERE ALL HE WAY TO THE END SHOWING THAT I SUPPORT THIS TEAM, CITY, PLAYER'S, COACH AND MANAGEMENT BECAUSE I KNOW WE ARE HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!!!
There are a lot of games left this season. We got some guys back from injuries who made a difference on the defence last game and if we can stay reasonably healthy from here on in we have a very good chance of making the playoffs in the East or via the cross-over.
I like the players Mack has brought in. I like our coaching staff. With a few tweaks here and there and letting the players play through the growing pains we will be a very good team in the near future.
Here is the main issue, it's been 20 years since we won our last cup and we may slip in to the playoffs this year, but we are not winning the Grey Cup this year ! Patience is wearing thin. I agree that we have to stay the course with Lapolice and hope our young team continues to get better ! Taking a real run at winning the whole thing in the next couple of years ! We were rebuilding last year and we are rebuilding this year. Kelly had to go,but deep down we all knew that a new coach brings new players and different offences and defences for the vets as well !
…not to mention a lot of vets. were dumped as well…I would like to see some vast improvement with the product on the field…We have 9 games to show that…IF there isn’t, we have to start reassessing once again…I don’t think anyone in the Peg is thinking Cup but what we do want to see is more in the win column…I don’t think that’s too much to ask for fans who have been in the ‘wilderness’ for too bloody long
I'm prepared to give it till the end of the month before writing anything off, I see they brought in a new RB/KR man. Could spell the end for Bernard if the guy works out. Maybe Bernard will garner some trade interest as well and we pick up a draft pick or NI depth player. September really is just the start of the football season in more ways than one.
Not being from Winnipeg, I don't think i have a right to voice an opinion on what the Bombers should or shouldn't do concerning personnel, especially with such knowledgeable fans as you guys. But, I do think I know a thing or two about "next year" and bandwagon jumpers. You see, I've been a Maple leaf fan since I could hold a hockey stick. In fact I can remember well the last time they won the cup. That was 1967. "Next year" is the Leaf mantra. This year the BB's started with a lot of high expectations, mainly due to the previous years' chaos. Compared to Edm. and BC, who have fairly veteran teams and coaches, I think we're doing quite well. The boys played a good game last week. Losing by 4 pts.to Sask. at home isn't too shabby.Bandwagon jumpers aren't worth a pinch of coonshit in the bay of Fundy and all of them can go pound salt. The trials we go through this year will make us stronger and I'll still be here cheering them on.
…i don’t think any Bomber fan is prepared to write the year off…it ain’t over till the fat lady sings…we’ll just keep on keepin on…I watched a video of this new kick returner Garrett…he runs like a deer…I hope they unleash him on the riders Sun. …ALSO one of our sore spots this year has been the o line… o lineman Calvin Armstrong (all-star last year ) has been cut today by the esks, hmmmmm could be worth a look…In any case , it’s way too early to throw in the towel…doesn’t hurt to have a peek at a few players for next year, but hey ,we’re still in it… :rockin:
…i hear ya Dan…I was a Leaf fan since i could put on a pair of skates…Great years when Imlach was coaching the team and winning Cups…Keon,Ellis,Pulford,Armstrong,Horton, and many other great players of that era are still etched in the ol memory banks…I did drift away when the Jets came to town but after they left i couldn’t seen to get the feeling back for the ol Leafs…
I see us plugging along like the Leaf hockey franchise in a lot of ways…Just about putting together a winner and then falling back in the pack…I know we won’t experience a drought like the present Leaf team …that would be too much to endure  and I think we’re on the right track now , it’s going to take time…AND i know that’s what every gm/coach of the Leafs has said in recent years… We’ll proably win a Grey Cup before the Leafs win their division…(i hope)
I know it’s hard to be patient because of the long time between Cups but we can’t keep blowing the team up every year because we didn’t have instant success. It’s not the new regime’s fault we haven’t won a Cup in so long and it will take a season or two to put all the pieces together.
You’re a Bomber fan, you have every right to voice your opinion no matter where you live.
Sorry I worded my response badly and didn’t mean for it to sound that I meant you were saying that. I’ve read so many posts elsewhere by impatient fans who are calling for mass firings already.
I couldn’t agree with you more, Blue Blood. Dan’s been a lifelong, dedicated Bomber fan, and has every right to express his opinion regardliess of his personal postal code.
That said, I suppose he was a bit gun-shy because there were two posters who used to frequent these boards on a regular basis who both kept insisting that since he didn’t live in Winnipeg and buy tickets to the Bombers’ home games, he wasn’t, in their eyes, a true Bomber fan. Nonsense of course. . .
Mike Kelly not working out, set this franchise back 4 years ! The Bombers figured to be contending for a Grey Cup this year. If all went according to plan  The franchise took steps backwards and know is slowly gaining the lost ground . If Lapolice has it right we should be solid next year and a threat to win it all in 2 years ?
…Dans the Man  :rockin: …I think the two other posters you are referring to MadJack are in the dawg-house…at least one of them …or were they one in the same
Did you see Barrin Simpson’s comment in the Sun? He said that if the Bombers would have had Pierce and Jyles as QBs last year we would have won 12-13 games. I’m not sure what to make of that. It’s hard to imagine.
We make the playoffs for sure , we would have hammered BC in the game at home. Bishop played the worst game of any QB in the history of the franchise ! We probably beat Hamilton in the last home game !
Thank you very much , lady and gentlemen. Maybe I should have worded my post differently. I am not gun shy or afraid to voice my opinion ,especially not because of housedog or sanjay, but i do follow your reports of players. You fans consistently beat the media to the punch on signings and updates. I don't know how you do it , but I appreciate it ! I won't pretend I know as much about PERSONNEL as you guys do, but i think I love the Bombers as much as you do. I can't this year , but next year I'm going to get to Winnipeg to sit and watch a game with the stadium full of people cheering for the same team as me. It's a dream of mine. You guys are TRUE BLUE and thanks again!
