Why don't we ever see this in the CFL?

because the defences aren't that dumb

...a variation on the Pop-Warner 'Coach, we have the wrong ball' play....

Obviously not. I’d never seen anything like that before, though, and thought it was funny.

(and for the record, before anybody thinks I’m a complete football moron, the post title was tongue-in-cheek).

Never thought you were.
Here is an an example of it not working at all.

In high school, we ran the Guard around 3 or 4 times. Had a lot of success with it. I don’t think the guard around is allowed in the pros though.

That was too funny!

poor coordination 4 sure, coach set his QB up for a pasting

The guard around and the fumble rooskie are legit at any level , don’t know of any reason they wouldn’t be legal, as long as there is complete exchange by all players in possession of the ball.ie Center to QB back to the Center .
I doubt they would have much success at the pro level

A lame NFL attempt .should have been stuffed for a loss lmao- http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-cant-miss … le-rooskie

This play was well coached, Not sure if there could be a procedure call for the QB movement and the lateral snap of the ball. instead of a backward snap.
A good wrinkle would be to have the guard line up over the ball and exchange possession with a pulling tackle. ,in effect over loading the line in the direction on the play by pulling the center.
