Mr. Braley said in a media interview a month or so ago that one of groups interested in buying the Argos wanted a Community ownership model. Not sure if that was 100% community or a corporate/community ownership mix?
The Argos could likely raise several million dollars appealing to their fanbase (which includes 400,000 Argo fans who enjoy home games at home) to buy shares in a community ownership plan. This could be coupled with a “Save The Argos” appeal which I believe would be highly successful in Toronto. The Argos have many, many hidden fans who will stand up and be counted if push comes to shove.
Gridiron football is a great game. Watching the Raptors tonight even with a good game there in Toronto still convinces me basketball is no match for gridiron for this guy's entertainment value. Just too much scoring in basketball, back and forth. They need to make the baskets smaller.
Try telling that to a 20 year old on the outdoor court from Scarborough or North York. I bet he’d tell you CFL is no match for the Raptors.
And therein lies the problem. The CFL needs to catch more of the younger demographic to ensure its financial stability in the future when the younger generation makes the majority of the disposal income.
The raptors are getting 19 000 plus 41 times a year. The Argos could barely get that once in a year.
And you can’t even say winning solves everything, because the Argos won the Grey cup 2 years ago.
Anyways I think a move to BMO will create scarcity and a more intimate atmosphere thus boosting sales and creating excitement around the team.
