Why are the CFL footballs black now?

They were always red. Don’t know if I like them or not.

They got the idea from the Riders. The balls aren’t black. They are “Obsidian Brown”.

As long as they aren’t blue balls. That could really ‘hurt’, well the eyes that is.

I wondered that myself, I don’t like 'em.

I don’t like them either. And penalty flags are now not red enough. Also I disagree with moving kickoffs back 5 yds , and putting the ball on the 40 after a single point, it used to be at the 25 long ago.

And why don’t we go back to when the head Ref went over to the sideline & buried himself in a review - like the Refs in FIFA do when in doubt. Why leave it to men upstairs we don’t see.

"As I was walking up the stair,
I met a man who wasn’t there.
He wasn’t there again today.
I wish, I wish he’d stay away. "

Just a guess, perhaps to identify the chipped balls vs the kicking balls…which is slightly more painful then blue balls

An old limerick my uncle use to say.

I went to the movie tomorrow
And took a front in the back
I fell from the floor to the ceiling
And skinned the front side of my back

Thought they scrapped the chipped balls, but don’t quote me on it.

They only cancelled chipped balls for kickers… after game one when a few FG hooked left, and after several place kickers went public and were fined for speaking up.

Ah, got it Cup. Thanks for clarifying.

The idea was to increase the number of scoring plays. It is working.

Here is link to Wilson’s website with details on how to prep a football.

The process involves applying conditioner, tack spray & football mud. The end result is a darker football.

How to Prep a Football Like the Pros

There is a side by side comparison of a new ball vs. a game ball in the article.

K-Balls used in the CFL are not prepared which is why they tend to be a different colour.

The 25 is better… Instant Feild position is not and should not be rxpected

Love it, Cup. They do limericks in Winnipeg & Opera in Sask, so Rider tells me. Learn something new every day. :grinning:

Opera in Saskatchewan, limericks in Winnipeg, yes indeed. Sorry I’m mean Yup, as the adults pretending to be cowboys would say in Calgary or Give’ er as they would say in the Big Onion.

In the old days, I keep complaining about, the attendance was huge. Not so much these days!!!

Oops sent to wrong guy, was for Pants on Fire
