In defence of ArgoT, the CFL state of the league address in 2009 made note of the fact that 30% of CFL fans don't watch the NFL -- it's a minority, but a sizable one and one that I'm proud to be part of myself. Personally, the NFL isn't the worst thing in the world (soccer is), but it's a far cry from the better game that is Candian football. I do like watching the US commercials though as some of them are better than the game itself. Recently, I think this one takes top nods:
I am a CFL fan first......but I watch the NFL too, especially after the Grey Cup. It's still good to watch four-down football despite all the hype.
I will also watch the Super Bowl...but not until the opening kick-off. The endless monkey chatter in the pre-game shows that seem to last all day are a complete waste of time. I have never liked the Steelers and will never forgive them for stealing the Tiger-Cat (Tigers) uniform colours back in 1933.
Then I wait until the Tiger-Cat training camp when I usually have forgotten who won the Super Bowl.
Talk about “monkey chatter” what can be worse than listening to Glen Suitor start his chattering monkey mouth at 3PM - three and a half hours before the Grey Cup kick off!!!..lol
Troy Aikman is good at what he does and very knowlegable. Glen suitor just drones on and on and on and on and on and never shuts the F up.
I may or may not watch the Super Bowl, just like I didn’t watch much of the Grey Cup! I am always disappointed when its the last game of the year. I love the playoffs but the last game I don’t like unless maybe the Ticats were playing.
But I thought the half time show last Super Bowl with The Who was fantastic - wow they sounded great. This year its the Black Eyed Peas, that was a very Low Point for the Grey Cup halftime show when they (sang?) performed in Edmonton a couple of years ago, it sounded horrible and worse live. So I don’t think I will tune in for the half time show this year.

mike: I did not watch the Grey Cup until kick off time either! The NFL seems to have more contributors to the monkey chatter though.
Any true football fan will be watching the Superbowl. I love football, CFL is my passion, but I'll be watching for sure. It's that small minded thinking that can make CFL fans seem ridiculous.
TV ratings are peaking, new stadium's are being built, attendance is steady through a recession, and parity is alive in the league. What's there to be threatened about? These are great times for the league, be proud of it.
Relax, watch the game and look forward to another great year in the CFL!
You know I’m still waiting for all this “Super Bowl” hype that the OP was complaining about. It’s been really quiet, it’s too bad that we have to wait another week before the Super Bowl. But at least we get football going into February.
I guess you have not watched the nightly news, all the newspaper TV ads, and the various radio spots for the "Big Game" at many watering holes.
And we are over one week away.
Here in the US wannabe capital I have to pinch myself to find out that I am really in Canada.
How sad that we have to sellout our Canadian treaure for this crap.
I for one do not care and do not want to be infiltrated with over the top style Americana.
argoT: Just tune it out. I am tired of hearing about the “World Champions” BS but let’ em have their fun until it’s time to watch the game. Super Bowls are usually pretty good and it’s great to watch football in February. It makes me appreciate the Canadian game much more.
But I see the Grey Cup week as overhyped, over the top Canadiana it’s sickening. What’s with the “awards” ceremony copying the Academy Awards with CFL players wearing tuxedos etc, very laughable. Night after night of “reports from that loud mouth Glen Suitor” Endless over the top hype during the long long NHL playoff season - I’m tired of seeing and hearing about that Crosby guy from Pittsburgh, now he’s named Canada’s athlete of the year. Is that the only sport we have?
No I think we can learn a lesson from our cousins south of the border -don’t take yourselves too seriously.
Nothing wrong with being a US wannabe, yes let’s be infiltrated - I wish more Canadians were like that, love their sports and actually come out to watch whether its football, baseball, basketball, college sports, hockey, NASCAR
Have fun and sell yourself out to everything that is American, good or bad.
As for a lesson to be learned, you have got to be kidding my friend.
It’s one thing to watch an overhyped game that will go on and on for two weeks and of course the nonsense and lies that a billion plus folks will watch this garbage, but to suggest we should basically watch all that is American that is absurd.
It’s funny but more sad though, every “sport” that the Americans touch ultimately becomes big business and a mess to include a gross overpayment of salaries etc.
No better example then us selling out our hockey and the mess that is known as the NHL.
Enjoy the Super Bowl.
