Bo has had some solid play this year.
Taylor moved the ball better vs the same D.
Milanovich is not afraid to make a change.
Dunnigan and Henoc have decried “Milanovich has moved on from Bo”
In almost every other scenario I would tell you that Powell gets the start next week and likely going forward.
I did say almost because 2 or our next 3 are against the teams that Bo and this offense have beat this season with the third being against an underperforming Winnipeg team. Also, the first of those 3 is against a defense that Bo had a career day against just 3 games ago.
I think the schedule suggests you stay with the vet and give him another shot against the weak sisters to see if he gets on a role.
That’s my logic. I’m usually wrong. Expect Powell.
The question posed in this thread is “Who is our starting QB?”
Some are saying Taylor Powell but may I suggest Taylor Swift ? I mean can she do any worse ? I mean after all she is dating a big time NFL player and is apparently very good and very popular at what she does . Sounds like a win , win to me which is something this team doesn’t do very often if at all lately .
The TiCats got a broken-down, blown-out-shoulder quarterback in Bo Levi Mitchell a year ago and a half ago and his play and his injuries have been a year and a half of wasted time. Give Taylor a shot, he’s shown some promise. Give Harrison a shot, he’s got a surname you can make a lot of quips with. Give Taulia a shot, he’s got a super-star brother. The only GawdDamn problem is the Tiger Cats have NOBODY who knows how to coach them and then GawdDawn It All Mighty, there’s the defense and Who the Hell is Coaching them!
We have no talent at receiver.
We pay Timmeh $235,000 to drop sure TDs and tip balls up for INTs.
We have a FB who seemingly cannot secure a football.
We have a Defence that is at the rock-bottom of the League.
We have a DC who cannot put his players into a position to make plays - if they even have the talent to do so.
We have a Very Special Teams group who can’t block, can’t cover, and can’t return footballs.
We have the most undisciplined team in terems of penalties.
We continue to employ stretcher-cases like Figs.
Tell me how ANY QB can succeed with all these faults? The only position groups who actually perform up to standard is the O-line and Butler.
Also, I feel that half of the INTs were NOT on Bo. Too many balls have been tipped into defenders hands. Too many incorrect routes. Too many receivers with alligator arms.
At this point, I don’t care who the starting QB is - with the lack of talent and players that seem to not GAF it doesn’t matter who is under centre.
Given how quickly he got pulled tonight, it feels like a foregone conclusion that Milanovich would make the switch at qb this year as soon as Bo had a rough stretch.
I’m not convinced we’re going to see anything new out of Powell. He’ll put a few drives together, play it safe and run Milo’s offence pretty efficiently as he did tonight. With good receivers and a solid defence/special teams he could put together a Matt Nichols type career. I don’t see him as having that extra gear to put a scare into defences with his arm or find ways to pull out a win in the dying minutes.
Either way looks like he’s the guy for the near future. I’ll keep an open mind but this is feeling like an audition for 2025 already. If that’s the case then they need to look at Frost as well - I don’t want to see 9 games worth of check downs in hopes of “developing a guy”.
I don’t see him as an exciting gunslinger either and agree with your assessment. I also think if Powell had a solid team around him in all the various position groups, then he could become an effective Game Manager type of QB.
Essentially we could win with Powell in the near future but does anybody actually have any faith in the Cat’s scouting to assemble such a formidable team around him?
There must be more going on with Bo and Milo than we see on camera. I get the impression that Scott was pissed with Bo for that interception and not just for the outcome of the play alone.
Was Bo told to play conservatively to establish some momentum? Not to be baited into throwing farther down field? My guess is that Bo disregarded the coaches direction and that got him pulled after just one series.
But blaming Bo for how bad this team has been this year, is really misguided. Terrible defense performances every week, WR’s not putting any effort in whatsoever.
I don’t see a future with Powell (or Bo for that matter). He looked better today than he did last year and was actually willing to get hit which you couldn’t say last year but he still doesn’t really doesn’t strike me as someone you pencil in as a starter next year, which is the focal point right now as the season is long gone.
Personally, I’d take a look around the league for a young QB that can be a starter next season. Its a shame that they didn’t trade for Tre Ford when the writing was on the wall that he wouldn’t start for the Elks because he’d really be someone worth investing in.
