Who hired Ed O'Neill and Mike Working?

Remember Rod Rust was signed and stepped down…

im sure O’Neill was not in the plan from the beginning.

8) originally Rod Rust was signed to be our DC,

but just 3 weeks before training was to begin
he informed the club that he
physically could not do it any more !!!

It was then that Taaffe hired Ed O’Neil
as a last minute replacement !!!

Obviously a big mistake has been proven
in the last game especially !!!

My recollection is that Ed O’Neil
was under consideration from Charlie
as his DC for quite a while,

but he was under contract with
the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe.

That or Rod’s wife’s health and his age
held up the filling of the DC position

It was getting close to the beginning of March,
the time when Charlie wanted to start prepping
for the season with all his coaches,

so the hired Rod Rust as D.C.,

then, when Ed O’neil became available

they gave Rod Rust the title
of Defensive consultant.

Next thing I heard was that
Rod was guest coaching
at Edmonton’s Training Camp.

8) You are half right Ron. Originally Charlie hired Rod Rust to be our DC. Then just a few short weeks before training camp as I said earlier, Rod informed the team that he would be unable to do the job because of health reasons !!! It was then that Charlie hired O'Neil to be the DC !!! You are right about Rod then being named Def. Consultant. He said he would be able to come up here occassionally if needed to help out and give advice !!!

I sure had not heard about Rust being at the Eskimos training camp though !!! Rust and the Cats must have had a falling out after he resigned from his position here !!!

Tipper, an avid fan, who reads football articles daily
on all CFL teams like I do, told me today that he read

that Ed O' Neil WAS actually Charlie's FIRST choice as D.C.

He also read that Rod guest coached
at Edmonton's Training Camp.

and he went home early from their TC
for reasons of his or his wife's health.

I saw Rod in Hamilton when he was
being introduced at The End Zone bar
as our Defensive Co-ordinator.

Then Ed O'Neil got freed up
from NFL Europe's Galaxy

and the team said that Rod would
be a Defensive Consultant instead.

Rod's hiring never happened.
