I heard that Winnipeg made 4.9 milliion dollars last year from a face book post, does anyone know what the financial position of the other CFL teams were last year?
lol i love that people think facebook is some kind of source. yes the Bombers reported those earnings.
unfortunately not every team reports it's previous year's finances, at least not in a timely manner.
Semi-official story
I believe the Community owned teams have to post their end os season earnings/deficits every year
WPG, SSK, and EDM are community owned
yea i think those are the only three that do report regularly, at least that i can remember. i thought i saw riders post their 2022 finances somewhere already.
WPG BLUEBOMBERS had their loan for their new stadium written of by the Province of Manitoba in 2018
So that helps monumentally
yea that always helps. taxpayer money going to support pro sports is a thorny issue. if you’re going to use taxpayer money, you should give them a say in how it’s spent.
It didn’t really change things for the Bombers. The money they had always paid towards the loan is now put toward a capital fund for investments into the stadium.
I believe that Community owned teams aren't allowed to make large profits
all profits must be re-invested back into the team
Looks like $25 M of non football related expenses. I have always said that a good accountant is an important position.
As a community owned team and with the full disclosure responsibilities, it would be nice to see salaries paid for last year listed as they did years ago in the Free Press. No mention of current salaries need be named.
Curious if the Canadian Premier League team will report separately given they are 1/3 owners of IGF.
So for those scoring at home, the Bombers could afford a $10 million salary cap and still be profitable.
And as previous posters have pointed out, there are a lot of non football related expenses so the true profitability would be even higher if you removed some of those (in addition to the somewhat inflated football expenses as well).
Very true. Especially when it comes to CFL and financials
Fun Fact
CFL WPG Bluebombers play in a relatively new 33,000 seat stadium
NHL WPG Jets play in renovated 14,000 seat arena
Now we just need to get the hobby owners to run their teams as well as the Bombers do, and maybe we can get that cap up to $10 million.
The corporate owners are worse than the hobby owners.
When they said we MADE money I hope they don’t mean we printed some up on the Blue Bomber office copier.
Unless the players fight for it, they won’t get it unless teams like the Bombers start bringing in $80 million min revenue.
Such is life when the cap isn’t tied to revenues like it is in every other league
With the way inflation is devaluating our dollar it won’t be long until $80 million works out to today’s $4.9 million.
Good point
I consider the corporate owners (eg. MLSE) to be hobby owners, based on the way they run the teams as if they were just a hobby rather than a business.
