which starting QB has the most Grey Cup Rings?

Anyone know the top 5 quarterbacks with the most Grey Cup rings as a starter???

:? 8)

Flutie - 3 Cups
A.C.- 3 Cups
Warren Moon - 3 as a starter I think.
Kenny Ploen - 4 Cups I think
Bernie Faloney - 2 Cups I think
Russ Jackson - 3 Cups

You forgot Damon Allen with 4 - Pleon had 6

Depends how strict you are about "starting."

Ploen won as starting QB in 1959, 1961 and 1962; he played in the 1958 win but Jim Van Pelt was starting QB.

Faloney won with Hamilton in 1957 and 1963, but was he also the starting QB for Edmonton in 1954? I'm not sure; Jackie Parker was on that team too.

Maybe the old Argonaut Joe Krol. Between 1945 and 1955 he won 5 Grey Cups. The caveat here is that he was considered a classic "triple threat." Krol was primarily a quarterback but like most players of that era he had other on-field jobs as well.

But maybe going back into the pre-1958 era is stretching things a bit.

I think that honour would go to Tom Wilkinson with 5 Grey Cups, 3 as a starter. Wilkie also played in 8 Grey Cups which may be tops amongst Quarterbacks.

Data can be found on pages 203 & 204 of the 2012 CFL Facts, Figures & Records. There are 9 quarterbacks that are tied with 3 Grey Cup championships as a starter.

Bill Stukus - 1937, 1938, 1942
Bernie Faloney - 1954, 1957, 1963
Kenny Ploen - 1959, 1961, 1962
Russ Jackson - 1960, 1968, 1969
Tom Wilkinson - 1975, 1978, 1979
Warren Moon - 1980, 1981, 1982
Doug Flutie - 1992, 1996, 1997
Damon Allen - 1993, 2000, 2004
Anthony Calvillo - 2002, 2009, 2010

Joe Krol was never listed as a starter for a Grey Cup. He spent most of his career as a halfback.

Good job, does any Qb top Wilkinsons 8 Grey Cups in total?

 Thanks StatsMan- I always wondered about this! :rockin:

Add Ricky Ray to the list now!!!

I've never really thought about it, but I am surprised no starter has won more than 3 cups.

Ricky Ray has won 3 out of 4 for 75%.

Does anyone with 3 wins a as a starter have that high of a winning percentage in the big game?

Wouldnt Warren Moon?

Yes, if memory serves me correctly, Moon was 100% in his Grey Cup appearances.

Another interesting fact with this is that Damon Allen was 11 years between his first and his last win. Gives us oldsters something to smile about. :cowboy:
