Where is Jim Popp

I am surprised that we haven't heard one beep from Jim Popp in a month. Very strange, you would think reporters would be trying to get his comments on the current situation.

Found a morcel from our GM here

Sound half a sleep

At the risk of being labeled a troll…what is the “situation” that Popp should comment on?
And what should he say?

Go crawl back under your rock.

He was interviewed at the Rouge et Or - Carabins game, there to watch 18 draft eligible players.

Historically Popp has been more conscious of his market than his counterparts on the Canadiens.

Rouge et Or appear headed off to play Calgary next week. Playing for Calgary will be Als 4th round draft choice G Reed Alexander who was a CIS West all-star this year. He didnt attend last years Als training camp, choosing to play with Team Canada.

There were two guys who impressed my during that game. Sebastien Levesque and Plessius both played for Quebec.

Does 'geographical preference', or whatever it is called, still exist in the CFL? CMIIW, but some time ago teams got priority when recruiting from its own locale.

It now only applies to junior age players:

Junior Player
A person shall be considered to be of junior age in any year prior to the year in which the age of twenty-three years is attained as defined in Section 5 of the CFL By-laws. Franchise territorial rights assign the exclusive right to contact, negotiate with and sign a junior player to the Club’s territorial limits whom the junior player is domiciled within. A junior player shall be permitted to participate in that member Club’s practice sessions without being signed to a Standard Player Contract.

The last player I remember that tried out for the Als as a junior was Chris Milo. With the college programs that exist today most prospects head in that direction and become eligible for the draft.

However, up until the 1985 draft teams could protect 2 draft eligible players from their territory.
