Where do we go from here?

So obviously this season is over after last night. It was already realistically but its official now.

My question is, what do we do now? Fire Dyce and the coordinators certainly but is that enough? Should Burke go too?

Then we also need to deal with the QB issue. I think clearly Brown is not it. So do we go with Crum for the rest of the season and as the starter next year? Try Adams or look for someone else?

It feels hopeless but there has to be something that can be done for next season. Surely no team can remain this bad forever.

As a Rider fan I can tell you it does and will get better.

I wouldn’t give up on Brown. But I do think serious changes need to be made to the coaching staff and football ops.

I’m glad its going better for you guys now! Especially to see Harris doing well. I always liked him when he was here and I hope he can get the Grey Cup this year.

Fields has done a good job as a first-time DC. I’d keep him. But a new GM is needed IMO and every other coaching position should be open. Dyce and Condell should go.

Usually a new GM and coach try to clean house for all positions as to coaches.

New head coaches like to get “ their own people “ in place to build on.

Best of luck.

Yes, I agree about the DC. He’s only had one year and defense has not been the issue the last few games. They’re showing improvement. The rest should go.

Usually but not always. It also depends on who the new HC is. If it’s, say, Peter Costanza from Toronto, a guy who already knows Fields from the latter’s time with the Argos, then maybe Fields stays on.

I would hope that a new GM (if Burke is fired) wouldn’t just appoint Campbell as HC. That would feel retrograde and not a good sign of due diligence. Canvas the league for the best list of candidates.

I think Burke has done a poor job overall … there have been a few big “what-ifs” due to injuries but then he is also the person who decided to stick with those players … I think the “success” last season (9-8-1) was an illusion and he bought into it … Dyce has never impressed me on the sidelines.

But as an Als fan I think they should extend Burke and Dyce for 20 years … :smiling_face_with_horns: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’m a Ticat fan and we haven’t won the cup since 1999. Ottawa won a cup in 2016, so 17 years less pain.

Ottawa needs a new GM and coach. Especially the GM.

Yes, I know some want Campbell as HC but I hope he isn’t either. Special Teams has been a dumpster fire under him this year.

I’m not even worried about the cup, I’m just tired of being 4-14 or worse. :expressionless_face: Since 2019 we’ve had 4 wins or less per season aside from last year. And they look abysmal while doing it. I just want to see some decent play at this point.

I feel you. The 2013-2018 years were a very bad time for the Alouettes. 2019 was the start of our climb out of the basement, but it did not happen overnight. We had three years of making the playoffs but not doing a lot more (2019, 2021, 2022) before the pieces fell into place for us in 2023. And it required a GM change in 2020 and a coaching overhaul four games into 2022.

Ottawa will come out of this spiral but IMO it will take a good hire at GM and then patience from ownership to let that GM do their job with a five-year mandate.

Clean House!

Find a GM that takes the Canadian draft seriously. Amber’s seem like a diamond in rough and I like what Cormier is doing at WLB.

Bull and Pelhos are always injured. You need to draft a Canadian to hold down that RT spot.

Brown is a good QB, but too many injuries.

I agree we definitely need more Canadians. Also to do more scouting in general. I don’t think our GM does it well.

Maybe Brown’s injuries can be fixed if the GM actually priorities building in the trenches too. Better O-line. My concern was more with how he played last game than with the injuries. He didn’t look like a starter QB out there imho.

I’m with you. Brown has some physical skills but his decision-making ability is suspect. Crum is at best mediocre, and Shiltz is a known entity but no growth potential.

I’d give Tyrie Adams a serious look.

Agreed … not certain Brown or Crum are legit/reliable starters … I know Shiltz isn’t

At 29 entering next season, with 31 completions in 49 attempts (none this season or last) in 20 games over 4 seasons it seems like they don;'t think much of him … at this point no reason to not find out whether he can do anything.

Campbell doesn’t strike me as the guy either.

Sorry to say but we have to clean house. Starting with G.M. And as much as I like the head coach he’s gotta go. And Cambell is NOT the answer, totally reevaluate the Q.B. position. Start all over again with a rebuild. This is a tough team to keep cheering for year after disappointing year
