Where are the McMaster cheerleaders?

8) Oh please, give me a break !!
If you want to accuse me of what you say I said, I stand by my assertion and bg's , that our so called cheerleaders are not actual cheerleaders in the true sense !!!

The Mac Cheerleaders are more into the actual cheerleader syndrom, where they do many athletic moves and dangerous manouvers as compared to our dance team !!!

Unbelievable how some people on here just look for any little thing to cause a controversy, in their own little minds !!!! <!-- s:roll: --><!-- s:roll: -->

I agree with Mark. Community work etc., is laudable, but that’s not what kids in the stands see on game day. What kids see on game day is a bunch of good-looking women who smile a lot, show some skin, and grind their hips to music. Sexuality isn’t evil, and I realize the dance team does more than just strut their stuff at games, but that is the main manifestation that kids see on game day. Taken as complete people, the dance team members may be good role models (I imagine all of them probably are), but kids only see one dimension of them at games, and that’s what I think is at the root of any criticism coming their way.

I don’t think the game day performances by the dance team are risque enough to be offensive, but they are certainly more risque than the type of acrobatics-oriented cheering that the Mac cheerleaders demonstrate. I’d sooner have kids aspiring to be brave and athletic rather than merely seductive. I do think the Cats organization and the dance team deserve credit for trying to use game-day programs, the ticats.ca website and community appearances to show that members of the dance team are well-rounded and give back to the community, but most kids in the stands are probably only aware of what they see on the field or on TV.

For the record, I think it’s great that we have both teams (EDIT: make that had both teams. Don’t know whether or not the Mac cheerleaders will appear at Cat games once September arrives), but as a traditional kind of guy, I have greater appreciation for the show put on by the Mac cheerleaders.

I also think that the choreography of our dance team is a lot more interesting and creative than what I’ve seen of some other teams, particularly the one down the road to the east.

Having spent years in the Burridge gym watching Mac basketball games, there is nothing remotely clever about the Mac cheerleader cheers. Unless you’re definition of clever is "Give me an M (total silence from crowd); Give me an A (Total silence), Give me a C (Total silence); What’s that Spell (Total silence); What’s that spell (Total silence); MAC!!! (waving of pom poms in air). I’ve heard that one about 5,000 times and no others that I can even remember.

The rest of what they do is that ear-splitting cheerforce BS, where they play a mix tape of a few seconds of a bunch of popular songs artlessly thrown together while they do their tumbling and stacking. (I like a well done mashup as much as the next middle-aged fat guy, but that cheerforce stuff is complete garbage)

Nothing wrong with preferring old fashioned cheering over dance teams, but that witless cheerforce cult obliterated that stuff long ago. Don’t let the traditional uniforms fool you.

Dance teams all the way.

We Want A Cartwheel!

Listen, you were the one who said
Exactly bg. They are actual "Cheerleaders" !!!
To me that reads that the Ticats cheerleaders in your opinion are not actual cheerleaders. Careful what you write and don't say I accused you of something. I copied YOUR words. If you did not mean it that way tell us.
And don't start with the insults on the forums. Not cool!

8) I don't know why I even waste my time trying to explain this again !!!
Read my comments above where I have explained my statement quite clearly !!

You were the one with the aggresive, threatening comment of "You've got some explaining to do with that comment ", and "You don't think this years cheerleaders are cheerleaders" !!!

I would suggest you read some of the other comments on this topic from other posters if you want to
get all upset !!! I don't see you complaining about them with regards to their feelings on this !!!

Now you say to me , "Careful what you write" and "Don't start with the insults on the forums"

You're unreal !! Kinda like calling the kettle black, don't you think???

By the way, you need to learn how to quote the right person on this site, before putting it in writing !!!

You have quoted my posting above in your name !!!! <!-- s:roll: --><!-- s:roll: -->

Cheerleading is a sport[1] that uses organized routines that range from 1 minute to 3 minutes made from elements of tumbling, dance, jumps, cheers, and stunting to direct spectators of events to cheer on sports teams at games and matches and/or compete at cheerleading competitions. Cheerleaders draw attention to the event and encourage audience participation. The athlete involved is called a cheerleader....

If that is not a definition which includes both styles previously seen at games i'm not sure what is. In essence both teams were there supporting the "cheerleader definition". Perhaps the solution would be to rename them the Hamilton Tiger Cats CheerDance Team! HA!

However i would have to disagree with some comments made in respects to these girls and their choreography.

  1. Leslie Stewart and the Ticat Personnel do an excellent job creating an image where these girls are made to look smart, classy and sexy. To say that the performances these girls put on at the games creates a negative image for young children watching would be disrespectful. Does anyone remember last year's Labour Day performance from the Double Blue "Cheerleaders"?
Our cheerleaders dance moves are no more scandalous then any other team in our league, the NFL, NBA, etc. It is a form of cheerleading that professional teams across various leagues have moved towards.

Furthermore, the Mac Cheerleaders are given the same sort of sex appeal our girls are. Their uniforms are tight, revealing and above all short! They too also use music and dance moves that are popular to contemporary forms of dance.

Would it be a professional cheer team if there wasn't some sex appeal?

  1. As a mother of a young dancer, i know each and every game these girls provide a classy image of what years of hard work, training and dancing can lead too. There are limited outlets for young women to progress in an artform like dance, and the Hamilton Tiger Cats offer that opportunity. Who's to take away from these girls and their training. Could it be possible that many of them have the Power cheerleading background as well as dance? Maybe they prefer one over the other. Who's to say that the various girls who come from McMaster have not been apart of the McMaster Cheer Team?

I'd have to agree with the comment "To each their own" but for those of who are trying to take away from this teams excellent performance skill level and positivity throughout our community i encourage you to compare them to other teams in the league. These girl ARE the best and have proven so at every Grey Cup i've been too in the last 5 - 6 years.
Kudos to Lesley Stewart.
