When you read stories like this, where all of the so called “Pan Am executives” will get mega payouts you have to wonder about the word “corruption” also the fact that the Pan Am Games were originally budgeted at $900 million and will cost $2.5 BILLION - These games are one step below the Commonwealth Games.
The government could just have combined provincial infrastructure money with the federal infrastructure and built the stadium in Hamilton and a couple of other venues for a lot less money. There was no need at all for these games.
The bonus pool for executives with the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games organizing committee has been reduced from $7 million to $5.7 million, which will be split among 53 executives instead of 64.
Pan Am executives paid as much as $250,000 are eligible for bonuses of up to 100 per cent of their annual pay when the Games are over — half for staying on the job and half conditional on performance
The province ordered TO2015 to tighten its expense rules in 2013 after some of its well-paid executives, including Troop, billed taxpayers for things like a 91-cent parking fee and $1.89 cup of tea. Troop received a severance package worth more than $500,000 when he was let go.
The corruption to the Pan Scam is right up there to what happened with the Montreal Olympics and especially the construction industry involved in the Big Owe fiasco.
Let's also mention how the building of the Skydump here in Toronto involved some shady dealings with overruns and similar construction "extras".
Anything a government touches involving our hard earned tax dollars results in big time corruption.
Troop and his band of merry men should have been charged criminally with the Minister who was supposedly “overseeing” this portfolio.
What a friggin mess.
Everything described above could be described as mismanagement, incompetence or nickel-and-diming, but I don't think it should be called corruption. (You could even argue "greed", but only if you've ever turned down money that was offered to you, insisted that your raise or bonus be reduced, etc.)
One definition of corruption is "dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery." That's not what's happened here, as far as I know.
Throwing the word around cheapens it in cases where it actually applies, such as the FIFA affair where people lined their own pockets illegally.
Absolutely not.
That is the true definition of corruption as it involves our taxpayers sacred money.
When no one overseas or looks after same and has a free reign to the cash box, there is nothing more sinister.
Yeah man, I live in the US now  I have actually stated that in many of my previous posts. In my original post on this thread, I stated that I’m out of the loop but I’m always following the Cats, always will. Greetings from Arizona :cowboy:
