what's the difference between the Riders and other CFL teams

dont forget sandusky to

you do that and thing will never be exciting again!

…exactly…I, for one, can hardly wait for the second installment of ‘Ask Me any Question’…

Don't Hold your breathe.... 8)

The Riders are the league’s whipping boy, which other teams like to pick on and steal their players and coaches. :expressionless:

The Lions have lost more players to the NFL in the last couple of years… Wake, Mallett, Grice-Mullen and Logan just to name a few…

the thing is, we are no different from any other team that has success, they will always lose players & coaches. Kent Austin is a good example-- if the Riders lose the 2007 GC game, does he stay until he wins one? It took exactly one year to accomplish his ultimate goal, so what is left to achieve? Once some people achieve the ultimate success, especially in sports, they move on to other challenges… even though the Riders lost last year, some players and coaches are looking for other challenges… making the NFL or becoming a HC is a testament to the organization’s football excellence. Another way to look at it is players will want to go to a successful program…so all is not lost.

The difference is that no one wants to steal players and coaches from bad teams. The Lions and Als have had numerous players and coaches stolen from them over the past few years too but it is the quality of the management that has allowed the teams to stay competitive

All the good teams go through cycles of losing their top guys. Success is always go to bring along unwanted side effects like other teams gunning for your top players and coaches. I'd much rather see us lose a few top guys each year while continuing to be successful instead of retaining the top players on a last place team.

One positive to the entire situation is that because of the constant change, the Riders seem to get overlooked and picked to finish out of the playoffs year after year.

Here's a simple way for the Riders to never lose anybody again, go 0-18 every year! Then you will never have to worry about another team signing your players or coaches! I'm sure the fans of the other teams will be ok with this too.

Um…not to sound rude here but your current head coach Richie Hall was last with the Riders.

So he was. All right, so the Riders staff has been gutted.

Chief, I know you’re being funny, but here’s the coaching staff departures since the 2007 Grey Cup:

Kent Austin - head coach - OC Ole’ Miss, now HC Cornell
Richie Hall - DC - HC Edmonton
Mike Gibson - Oline coach - OC Hamilton
Paul LaPolice - QB coach, then OC - HC Winnipeg
Bob Wylie - Oline coach - Oline coach, Denver Broncos

Considering how small CFL staffs are, since 2007, that’s quite something. Maybe “gutted” is not too far off.

Actually, I wasn't being funny... With Austin, Hall, LaPolice, and Tillman all gone (I didn't know about the other two), I'd say the Riders have taken a bit of a hit.

I was more laughing at myself for forgetting about Hall and Tillman. Those names should've jumped immediately, yet all I remembered was Austin, who left two years ago.

Actually, I also forgot Ron Estey (D-line coach), who retired.
