I think the Peg has the most aesthetically pleasing stadium by far, in terms of just the stadium itself.
In terms of surrounding atmosphere though... Montreal's is the most beautiful. Zach Collaros has been quoted saying Montreal is his favourite road trip, and specifically because of the atmosphere of the surrounding buildings and scenery.
Definately agree on Montreal, especially if you intend to make a full day of it. A mid afternoon game there on a nice day is hard to beat. do stuff before and after and love it all. This is a perfect example of location being such a big deal. When I am in Montreal a full day is made of it in the surrounding area…we spend a fair bit of extra cash. Most places, not as much so unless we are going drinking after.
Luv THF and Commonwealth - it might be old (1978) but it's a great place to see the games, esp. between Eskies + Riders. Huge stadium with great fans, good shuttle service + lots of restaurants nearby. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonw ... _(Edmonton)
Speaking of New Mosaic Stadium, 90% of the seats are now installed. With the tiered south endzone party decks & the 7 balcony party decks capacity will now be slightly over 34,000.
This is a good question. You have to think of the city around the stadium. Probably McMahon. But Lansdowne Park is where my heart is right at home!!! B.C. Place has looked interesting for a long time, since Roy Dewalt was pitching for the Leos. Used to love the playoff games from Edmonton, with the crowd yelling DEEEEE on one side, and FENCE!!! on the other. Often make the trip from Ottawa to southern Ontario. The new Ticats venue is spectacular yet intimate.
Sight lines and comfort, sorry. THF has you beat. I’m a fairly large guy and not once have I ever felt cramped, even next to other larger guys at THF. THF’s are by far the most comfortable of seats, with tonnes of width, proper cup holders for every seat and lots of leg room, with sight lines can’t be beat, and I’ve bee around that stadium. There is not a bad seat in the house. That and THF’s largest outdoor video board in the country I find far FAR better then the much smaller, seemingly more glitch prone one at TD Place.
The look of the stadium, I would not say that at all. It is very clear that the North Side is far only and less polished then the South Side and while yes I know the RedBlacks have a lumberjack theme, I’m not really a fan of the wooden exterior, but to each their own I suppose. Aestetics are hard to argue I guess, but from the outside, I’ve always been a fan of Crown that is BC Place.
I can’t honestly dispute the bars around the stadium though. Have had a lot of fun drinking Pre and Post at the Georgetown, which didn’t have to be our only option.
How do you determine who has the better sight lines? not a bad seat at TD Place and they have the bonus of having the south side curve, if you have a seat at the side of the end zone the section is curved. The sight lines are good at THF too so I can’t determine which would be “better” - I was at BMO for a soccer game last year and the sight lines are going to be great their too for football.
The old north side at TD was re-furbished so no walkway but it has the bonus of a roof on the fans. Width of seats? okay but I am “slim” and I didn’t notice one bit of difference between THF and TD. At BMO we were on the new upper deck and they have them plastic flex seats, no arm rests so if you are big you can just hang over either side of the seat.
I never saw any problems with the video board at TD Place, in fact according to the stats, the video board in Ottawa has more pixels and clearer.
You can’t beat the atmosphere at TDplace, the setting etc and the fan involvement seemed to be at a much higher level at TD Place, the fans are just more into it than in Hamilton. Last year we had tickets in section 107 at THF, good seats but the fans in the section were quiet and not in the game at all.
But overall, with the re-furbishment of the whole area at TDplace it make it “in my opinion” the best stadium, you can arrive a couple of hours before a game and sit out on a patio in one of the new restaurants or hang around in a bar or restaurant after a game until the crowds disappear.
I have my tickets for the Argo home opener so I will post some pics and “opinion” after the 23rd
If you want to talk sight-lines... it will be hard to ever beat Ivor Wynne. It was old and ugly, but it didn't have a single bad seat, other than maybe your ass being sore from the bench.
I know I’m nitpicking  I think the new stadium is in a better spot than the current one, but I just think what could have been. Across Albert by the Casino and downtown would have been so much better for making the whole game more of an event with the bars and restaurants and hotels all nearby.
I’m still excited to get into the new digs, don’t get me wrong.
For purely architectural reasons, Commonwealth is my fave that I've been to, and I've been to them all except Ottawa and THF and now BMO (but did manage to get to Ivor Wynne and SkyDome). Commonwealth is just such a gorgeous layout, extremely comfortable and functional. Absolutely beautiful place to watch a football game.
Winnipeg, the seats are AWESOME, the concourse is terrible. SkyDome, the concourse is AMAZING, the bowl is terrible. Stade Olympique, the concourse is appalling, the bowl is WORSE. McMahon, the concourse is grossly inadequate, the bench seating is unbearable, but the sight lines are quite good.
How is the concourse at Olympic Stadium appalling exactly? It is dated, I will grant you that, but is incredibly wide with plenty of room for good crowd flow.
