Just thought it would be interesting to get people’s thoughts on what we would like to see next week in what is essentially an exhibition game for both teams. Ottawa likely wants to keep Dru Brown sharp but I could see them resting a bunch of guys. Any players in particular you’d like to see Hamilton take a look at?
Personally I want to see a good dose of Kendricks and Trevon Mason in the middle at defensive tackle. Dantzler at Peters’ corner spot in place of Moxey. Bo hit his 5000 yards so how about Powell getting the first half then split the second half between Frost and Taulia. Maybe one of the newer receivers in place of Patmon.
I want to see starters for 3 quarters and a blowout Ticat victory.
Milanovich told TSN this week that he feels dominating these last two weeks helps build culture and momentum going into next year.
This is the CFL, we don’t have to develop a QB.
Go Ticats.
I dunno. I think the Als showed you can carry momentum to the following season. They wanted to prove their GC win was not a fluke
and came out firing from game one. Its about motivation.
Milanovich said in the Ticat Post game show that Bo is starting next week.
He also doubled down on the idea that finishing strong this year is important to establish momentum and team culture for next year.
And, they won’t even be fielding their best available team, against us.
GiasoneItaliano has reported that the coach will start Mitchell, again in Ottawa, but I think the best use of this game, for the TiCats, would be to sit Bo, give Taylor the first and fourth quarters, with 1 each, in between, for Taulia and Harrison, and also get a look at, in other positions, a few players who’ve had little, or no, playing time.
The coach gave Bo a full opportunity, on Friday night, to get his 5000 yds. and I hope he’ll do the same long enough for Dunbar, to get his 21 more yds. for a thousand, and include, in the plans, an early long shot target, or two, for Smith, which could lead to him having a big 119 or more yd. game for his first 1000 yd, season. 119 is the exact number of yds. Kiondré had, on just 6 catches, in his best outing of the year.
The last time the TiCats missed the playoffs, their momentum from that season’s final game 33-0 blowout win, didn’t accomplish much. They improved, the following season, to 8-10, from that 2017 record of 6-12.
That 2018 team had some swagger and essentially was better then their record indicated. Two late season losses came from ridiculous late game coaching from June Jones against BC and the last game of the year they rested most starters and still only lost when Liram missed a last second field goal.
We also couldn’t beat Ottawa that year.
Regardless, coach Milanovich seems to go by the beat of his own drum.
If Bo starts I don’t think he plays past the first quarter. Milo indicated even before the Calgary game that he wanted to get Powell some action. If Bo plays then one of Taulia or Frost don’t. I find it hard to believe they wouldn’t sit 3-5 guys in this one, especially anyone who is nicked up.
Who knows, there might be a performance incentive that’s within reach for Bo.
Maybe something along the lines of “at least 50% of offensive snaps per game/season” or something.
If Mitchell starts and plays only a quarter, or a half, what could be the positives and negatives for the team and / or him? Does he need to show more to get the local and Eastern voters to pick him as MOP?
I can’t think of any real positives, other than him being the best choice to get the ball to Dunbar and Smith, as I outlined in Post #15, this thread. But, I can think of outweighing negatives – a possible poor performance hurting his award chances, injury, less playing time for staff to update their evaluations on the other QBs …
As for DisplacedCatsFan’s performance incentive thought, the only one I can think of which, I believe, probably exists as part of Bo’s contract is $4K for taking the majority of the team’s snaps in the game. I base that belief on the reports of $72K playtime performance bonus money, in his contract, divided by 18 (regular season games). If that’s the case, I think paying the bonus, while not dressing him, would be a price worth paying for a full game’s time to see the other QBs and avoid anything negative happening for Bo.
