Week 1: Hamilton Tiger-Cats (8-10) at Winnipeg Blue Bombers (15-3)

I fully expect Hamilton to keep it close against us, the same way Ottawa did in Week 1 last year. The Tiger-Cats are a much improved team and they will likely be at the top of the East Division by season’s end. I hope our secondary are up for the challenge tonight without Rose and Parker. Bo Levi Mitchell is still a great QB. I wonder if it will take a few weeks to gel with his new receiving corps however. Let’s see if Duke Williams can get back to his 1,000 yard season form and stay disciplined. This should be a better game than last night’s contest.

A lot of fans picked Winnipeg to win this game, every expert on CFL and 3DN picked Winnipeg to win, I picked Winnipeg in the pool… I wouldn’t be surprised if Hamilton wins now

Go Blue! :bombers: :football:

Hummmm The last person to use the term , Well Waffle them ! That didnt work out so well for him did it .

I picked Winnipeg too but first game of the year who knows. Winnipeg should have the advantage in being able to gel as a team while Hamilton has had far more turnover. Winnipeg also has home field advantage which isn’t nothing. Sticking with my pick but Hamilton winning would not shock me. I do think this game will be better than the one last night.

Oh I know that , I just think it’s hilarious that someone when asked who will win the game actually gave that as an answer .
I believe it was then Cats coach Jim Trimble who coined the phrase back in the late 50’s or early 60’s but it was way before my time .

Great read here

They were big, menacing and vulgar men named Mosca and Barrow and Nagurski, all raised on sour milk and appropriately dressed in villain black. One of them, Ralph Goldston, was a thug of such ill temper that he once was ejected from a Canadian Football League championship match for punching Winnipeg Blue Bombers sublime running back, Leo Lewis, in the face. Their coach, Jungle Jim Trimble, was a trash-talking loudmouth from coal mining country in Pennsylvania and, in advance of the ’58 Grey Cup game, he considered the Bombers’ roster and declared, “The Winnipeg club didn’t show me anything to worry about.”

Jungle Jim also spewed this legendary line that November: “We’ll waffle ’em. We’ll leave ’em with lumps on the front and back.”

I am interested to see Hamilton this year. They really went all in

Excited to see this one. Didn’t see Hamilton Pre Season, but the line up looks good.

Winnipeg is pretty solid again this season, but a lot of those stars are another year older…

Hey Cup, just finished cutting the grass - did you do your part for the team?

I did my part - I picked Hamilton.

I recently purchased a zero turn 54" cut. I can cut my whole yard in 4/5 hours instead of 10…I held off cutting grass for the last 3 days just so I can cut it today…so yes I did, about 3 hours and added weeded the garden for an hour. We should be good for tonight’s game.

Figueroa is listed as a game time decision
If he’s not there Bo in for a long game

Cup & I have a pre game ritual that is (almost) foolproof & guarentees results.
Cut the grass on gameday & sit back, crack a beer (or 5) to admire your yard and get ready for the game!

I’m trying something new tonight - whiskey in a smoothie.
If it works, I’ll do it again next week.

Just got home from work. Temperature still a pleasant 26 with not a lot of wind. Some showers this aft but it shouldn’t affect the field. It’s looking like a perfect night for football.

Milt is eyeing Barker’s ring. If it goes missing we’ll know where to look.
