We stole Oskee Wee Wee ?

From Wikipedia

The Oski Yell is the University of California Berkeley spirit yell from which Cal's mascot, Oski the Bear, derives his name. Although Oski appeared in 1941, the yell was first performed around the turn of the 20th century. The yell's origins are uncertain, although the University of Illinois originated a similar yell in 1911 (with a different last line). The lyrics are:

Oski Wow-Wow!
Whiskey Wee-Wee!
Olee! Muckie-eye!
Olee! Berkeley-eye!
California! Wow!

A parody called Bossy Cow Cow exists at UC Davis (which was originally established as a farm for the use of Berkeley's College of Agriculture). This variation of the cheer originated in the 1920's:

Bossy Cow-Cow!
Honey Bee-Bee!
Oleo! Margarine!
Oleo! Butterine!
Alfalfa! Hay!

The Oski Yell is currently almost never heard, its function overtaken by spirit songs such as "Big C," "Fight for California," and "Sons of California."

Bossy Cow-Cow, however, is still used today by UC Davis's California Aggie Marching Band-uh!

The Oski Yell is still however in use in a modified form by Pigskin Pete[1] at games played by the Canadian Football League team the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Hamilton,_Ontario Canada

Oskee Wee Wee
Oskee Wha Wha
Holy Mackinaw
Tigers ... Eat'em RAW!!

Yes this was posted and discussed a few months ago.

hmm well my bad then, im not here during the off season.

That makes you a lot smarter than the rest of us.

I didn't see the original thread about this so I have to say that our version just sounds much better.

What was the verdict about the orgin of it???

  1. No verdict. There's also an Illinois university (I believe it's Illinois)- that challenged us on a thread from the old ticats.ca site. We had a big back and forth with some of their supporters. They also use a version of the chant.

Nobody knows where it originated though there are hints that it was somewhere in the U.S. in some form back even before the turn of the century and that various groups took it, modified it somewhat, and used it.

Here's another history from an Illinois perspective- http://uihistories.ncsa.uiuc.edu/cgi-bi ... tive?ID=37

  1. Don't - repeat - DON'T trust Wikipedia for knowledge. It CAN be good for a quick overview of a topic IF you check that overview. Remember that the articles are written by amateurs and that YOU (the one reading this post) could go in and re-write the whole current article to say that Bob invented the chant last summer while sitting in his hot-tub.

Some more information on this blog. Interesting story about during WWII when Hamilton RCAF pilots would use Oskee Wee Wee to identify other pilots from Hamilton.

That's alright some of the players dont even show up for the regular season, let alone the off season..... boooo boooo * hisss hissss.... What too soon? lol
