I have vague memories of the Labour Day game being held in Toronto one year, and that this happened within the last 20 years or so. Is this true? I can't find this little factoid anywhere on the internet.
Yes. It alternated for a short while, I believe. It was during the years when I was out of the province so I can't remember when.
Wikipedia doesn't really say.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_Day_Classic
There were several years in the 70s and 80s when the game was not even played...wonder why?
Yes it was.. but the attendance was so bad they moved it back to Hamilton
Well, during the US expansion era (1993-95), the Labour Day games shifted around...another reason the expansion was not a rousing success IMHO.
Somewhere in the mid-70's (74 or 75 maybe..I left Toronto in 1976) I remember going to a Labour Day Tiger-Cat/Argo game at Exhibition Stadium.
The tradition was a Friday night game in Toronto, followed by the Monday game in Hamilton.
Pat Lynch(the old guy in section 7)
No Cats/Argos Labour day game was ever held in Toronto. The 'Cats have always hosted a Labour day game except in 1995 when they played the Baltimore Stallions on the Saturday of the Labour Day weekend. The Argos hosted the Labour Day game that same year when they played the San Antonio Texans
mightypope is right.
The complete Ti-Cat Labour Day History is on pg. 4 of the following:
I remember I think in 1990 when Ottawa played in Hamilton on Labour day rather than Toronto.
mighty: Thanks for the clarification....I went to some Tiger-Cat Argo games at Exhibition stadium in the mid-70's. I was sure one was Labour Day. I'll blame it on geezerhood and my failing memory.
Thanks for the link to the pdf ottawacat, explains everything.
