Last night on CTV News Mutsumi said that it he got stabbed with a broken beer bottle. No knife was ever mentioned.
I, however, could not help chuckling when Mutsumi said that he was treated in the ICU of Montreal Children's Hospital.

Any updates on his health?
Poor judgement on his part to be at a bar at 3 AM. Way too late and not wise. Trouble always happens after midnight (Sorry Mr. Clapton). If he can’t get his socializing done by midnight, he’s not thinking of his career and responsiblity to the team, fans and the league, not to mention his family. Although we have all exercised poor judgement from time to time, his situation as a pro athelete demands more restraint and discipline. This was wholly avoidable. I wish him well and hope that he learned something valuable when and if he returns next season.
For Katmandu - agreed!
La seule version que j'ai vue dans les média parlait d'un tesson de bouteille, pas d'un couteau.
Its terrible of you guys to say something like that, he was not liquored, he didn’t attack anyone he was jumped , assaulted and someone attempted to kill him and you say he showed poor judgement ! Incredible, Rochon the pig said the same thing.
You probably think rape victims wanted to get some too right ?
Montreal has a gang problem, a law enforcement problem and lax liquor laws. That is what you should be talking about.
I’ve bartended for years in a very busy bar and this is not Walter’s doing. This is a law enforcement and liquor and games issue. Here in Nova Scotia all establishments serving liquor are heavily inspected and MUST have Cameras and a ratio of security guards per patrons. and in the cases of establishments where violence has occured even mild violence, they either lose their license or must pay for police security to reopen and accept to have the liquor inspection board oversee their operation. Also patrons photo id and driver license is scanned and individuals with violent episodes are barred from every licensed establishment in the province.
People here can feel safe in any bar no matter what hour it is.
While I sympathize with Spencer, his family and teammates, now that he's stable and out of danger, I'm wondering how this will affect the Alouettes and their already poor showing on coverage teams.
In that Leroy Vann clip package the announcer says, "Leroy Vann is showing that not only can be cover kicks....if he gets that football in his hands he knows what to do with it."
I guess we can assume that he not only was a coverage guy, but a pretty good one for them to mention it on a kick return. Anyone know anything about Vann stepping up on coverage teams?
Andrew Hawkins was also a special teams demon last year. Is he healthy enough to step back into that role again?
Walter Spencer has consistently led the teams in coverage tackles. Someone's going to have to step up and fill that void...or the Alouettes are going to have another BIG problem.
And how do you know that? Were you there?
And how do you know that? Were you there?
I wasn’t there, so I’m going to wait for the facts to come out before forming an opinion one way or the other.
None of us were there and the Alouettes' organization surely knows more about this then they are willing to divulge. As this is an ongoing investigation, the police will not likely release more news to the media as yet. The facts, in due course, will come out.
Notwithstanding, it was at least poor judgement to be in that neighbourhood at that time of the morning. We don't know whether or not he was in the establishment, liquored up, or whatever. The fact is that he is a member of a championship football team and is therefore a "hero" in the eyes of many young fans and represents the Montreal Alouettes. This is not the type of publicity the Als need right now, with the team struggling. These things distract attention away from the main focus of the team - winning! We have seen this type of behaviour before - anyone remember the "Ordinary Superstar" Johnnie Rogers?
The report I’ve SEEN has no mention of drunkenesss, beligerent behaviour previous altercations or ANYTHING of the sort and the team says he did not break any rule.
L'équipe a indiqué qu'il n'avait violé aucun des règlements de l'équipe en étant sorti tard la veille d'une réunion d'équipe. You ever been in a bar at night ? Never partied late at a Grey Cup event ? Long weekend you stay home ?

If the man had been in an afterhours bar in a dark seedy part of Montreal you might have a point. He was in a licensed establishement during business hours in a popular part of downtown on a long weekend !
This is what the team has to say.

A stand-up member of our team got stabbed and could easily have died and here we are talking about the 'poor decision' he made in staying out at a bar until closing time.
Gross, frankly.
Blaming the victim instead of pointing the finger at Montreal's problem with lax liquor laws and alcohol-fueled violence just doesn't sit right with me. Walter Spencer isn't a superstar making tons of cash. He's an ordinary joe, a guy who has to make a living but who has bills to pay, tensions to relieve, and the same kind of life most of us have. So you want him to never leave his house again? Never go out, never have a drink, never stay out a little late? Yep, he should live in a monastery while he's playing CFL football. Those big bucks he makes are ample compensation. He should sacrifice every bit of personal happiness all for the privilege and the honor of playing on the Alouettes' special teams unit.
Give me a break.

Even one of the Als “stand up guys” Rochon blamed Spencer… Wettenhaul needs to do a fall cleaning in his staff.
BTW If you ever want to come surfing or white water kayaking, you sir are welcome at my place any time and you can even come in as LATE as you want.
According to one of your earlier posts, Hfx, you state (speaking with a friend) that gangs take over at some point, particularly around bars. Assuming your friend is right, just one more reason to stay away, don't you think?
At any rate, when an incident like this happens, it hits the media big time, and people, rightly or wrongly, draw conclusions. He is, of course, free to do as he wills in his offtime. Sadly, incidents like this occur all too often in big cities with star players. The problem is it creates divisions among fans - some jump to his defence, others accuse him, and rest are just puzzled. While nobody expects players to live like monks, my point simply is that a pro player is in the public eye and even the most seemingly insignificant peccadillo is going to be reported.
Reminds me of that Monty Python sketch, "I don't want to argue about that..."
Surely the only salient points are:
Since there were NO curfew or discipline issues here...I wonder at people trying to manufacture any.
A neighbor came up to me yesterday wanting to discuss the stabbing....as far I know he has no interest in football....or the Alouettes. This sensation-mongering can only diminish the level of "blogversation" over here.
Sure would like to hear some opinions on how this injury will affect the Als coverage situation....who might be called on to fill in while Spencer recovers etc. Everything else is a little tacky, frankly.
You got shitty neig hbours
