Virtual Grey Cup Challenge, Week 8 & 9

WOW! Our combined records for last week were 272-69, and 32 people went 4-0! And most who didn't manage a perfect week went 3-1. The standings are posted here. If the old standings show up, click your browser's REFRESH button, and you should see the current ones.

We're now going into the bye weeks. This thread is for BOTH Week 8 and Week 9. You can make your picks for all four games together, or wait until after Week 8 to post your picks for Week 9. To be credited with a perfect week, you will need to get all four games correct. I will still post the standings after Week 8.

Here are the games for Week 8:
Saskatchewan @ Toronto
B.C. @ Edmonton

And for Week 9:
Hamilton @ Winnipeg
Montreal @ Calgary

To join in, just start making picks. You can join in at any time, though the later in the season you join, the harder it will be to catch up.

To make your picks, reply to this post with your predicted winners. This is a straight-up win/loss pool; point spreads are not taken into account.

To be considered for any game, your pick for that game must be made PRIOR to the scheduled kickoff time. Even if your pick is made one minute late, or the kickoff is delayed, if it's after the scheduled kickoff time, it's late. No exceptions.

To change your picks, post another reply to the thread. Do NOT edit your original post. I may miss the change, or you may invalidate your picks.

While you're free to elaborate on your picks, your predicted winner must be clear at a glance. I don't want to have to read through a five-hundred word essay to figure out which team you're picking. More accurately, I won't.

Conditional picks are not allowed. That is, there is no "Calgary if Burris plays, Edmonton if he doesn't." If you make a conditional pick, I will accept the first team named as your pick.

The complete rules are posted here.

A perfect week, and I barely moved in the standings. Well, maybe I'll have better luck this week.

Saskatchewan @ Toronto: I hope I'm wrong, but the Riders seem more inept than Toronto in this battle of the basements. Argos by 1.

B.C. @ Edmonton: B.C. is plain and simple not a good team. I'm just glad Arland Bruce is fumbling for someone else now. Esks by 6.

Hamilton @ Winnipeg: The Ticats are a good team, but I'm not sure they're ready to venture into "Swaggerville". Winnipeg's D scares the hell out of me. Bombers by 4.

Montreal @ Calgary: Montreal's better. Als by 8.

Here are the games for Week 8:
Saskatchewan
B.C.

And for Week 9:
Hamilton
Montreal

Week 8:
Saskatchewan
Edmonton

Week 9:
Winnipeg
Montreal

Week 8

Toronto
Edmonton

Week 9

Winnipeg
Calgary

Thanks Big Dave. Wow this year the pool is dominated by superstars picking at least 8 out of every 12 (2/3) right. Check out the top 15 plus the wily FYB plus the runs by Ralfsnart and Schooner.

I'll be happy just to break 60% for the season after hitting 57% for all of last season, and at least it will get more interesting to shake things up especially after Labour Day weekend.

Winnipeg
Calgary

My picks for week 8:

Saskatchewan @ Toronto - tough one to call, actually... I'll take the Argos, because the Rider D sucks more than the Argo D... Argos by 3

BC @ Edmonton- this one won't even be close... Esks by 20

My picks for week 9:

Hamilton @ Winnipeg -- I'm going to go against the grain on this one... and will be my upset of the week... Cats by 3

Montreal @ Calgary-- Stamps are on a bit of a roll, and this should be a pretty good game... Stamps by 4

Week 8;

Roughriders at Toronto - TORONTO
B.C. Lions at Edmonton - EDMONTON

Week 9;

Tiger Cats at Winnipeg - WINNIPEG
Alouettes’ at Calgary - CALGARY

Cheers Big Dave

Toronto - home field advantage
Deadmonton - the Lions have grown allergic to winning

TiKitties - upset time
Montreal - close game possibly OT

Wow, this is a really tough week to pick. No gimme games at all.

Saskatchewan @ Toronto: Two desperate teams, but one has dropped six straight and is statistically unlikely to make it seven. That's about the only way I have of making sense of this game.

B.C. @ Edmonton: I know, this looks like a lunatic pick, particularly since BC let me down so badly last night, but Edmonton is one injury away from recruiting me into their receiving corps, and their O-line is still a work in progress.

Hamilton @ Winnipeg: Logic suggests that Winnipeg's win streak has to end some time. The time is now.

Montreal @ Calgary: Calgary's offense looks better every week, Calvillo always has trouble with Chris Jones's defense, and the Stamps are at home.

WEEK 8......T.O. over Sask.....Battle of the inept....I see Sask. as the 'inepter'...( i know there ain't such a word and i'm at a loss for words describing the riders of 2011)

......B.C. over Edm.....IF the leos straighten out that comedy of errors they had in the Wpg. game, they could just sneak by Kavis' crew....Tough call this one

WEEK 9....Wpg. over Ham......Could/should be a great defensive battle...Bombers prevail

......Cal. over Mont.....Another tight one...stamps will pick-up the win.....

Saskatchewan
B.C.

And for Week 9:
Winnipeg
Montreal

Sask
BC
Hamilton
Montreal

The fact that I’m in 3rd place in my first year of playing proves that luck plays at least as much of a role here as anything that might resemble being a superstar (even an ordinary one  ).

Anyway, here goes:

Saskatchewan @ Toronto: Hate to do this, but the Argos put a scare into Hamilton at IWS; the Riders aren’t scaring anyone these days.

BC @ Edmonton: This is my hunch for an upset. BC probably isn’t as bad as their record (like us last year) and Edmonton has come down to earth with a thud.

Hamilton @ Winnipeg : One of these days we’ll lose to someone with a worse record than ours (can’t be otherwise at this point) but not at home to Hamilton; there’s too much recent history to avenge.

Montreal @ Calgary: Calgary seems to have more momentum now.
