Here are the rules, in a nutshell:
Each week I will start a thread, like this one, listing the games being played that week.
To join in, just start making picks. You can join in at any time, but the later you join the harder it will be to catch up.
To make your picks, reply to the thread, stating which teams you think will win. You can elaborate or pontificate all you want, but the predicted winners must be obvious at a glance.
In order to be accepted, your post must be made prior to the scheduled kickoff. No exceptions for any reason.
If you want to change your pick prior to game time, post another reply. DO NOT change your original post.
At the end of the week, the standings will be posted. Rankings are based on the number of correct picks, followed by the aggregate spread (point spread of games picked correctly minus point spread of games picked incorrectly), followed by the percentage of correct picks.
At the end of the season, the top 8 participants will qualify to make picks for the post-season.
These are the games for Week 18:
Winnipeg @ Toronto
Edmonton @ B.C.
Montreal @ Hamilton
Saskatchewan @ Calgary
Argh! The Ticats played one of their worst games of the season, and not only blew a chance to clinch a home playoff game AND keep pace with the Argos in the race for first, but also robbed me (and a lot of other people) of a perfect week. Argh!
Anyway, here goes:
Winnipeg @ Toronto: Toronto clinches first, and Winnipeg goes through the motions. Argos by 11.
Edmonton @ B.C.: B.C. finally manages another win by playing the only team that has not beaten a division team this year. Lions by 10.
Montreal @ Hamilton: Hamilton gains a measure of revenge, and clinches a home playoff game in the process. Cats by 4.
Saskatchewan @ Calgary: Game of the week. Tough to call, but Calgary is still red hot. Stamps by 2.
Bombers over the Argos.......miracles can happen  :o
Cats over the Al's................Revenge Game :rockin:
Stamps over Riders..............Stamps keep rolling :cowboy:
Lions over Esks....................Esks season all but over
Sigh. A Saskatchewan victory last week has dropped me out of a playoff position, so I'm looking for redemption this week...
Toronto - Despite a better performance last week, we're still talking Winnipeg here...
B.C. - Without Lulay, B.C. is looking anemic. Fortunately they are playing Edmonton this week...
Hamilton - One half of dreadful, penalty filled game sealed their fate last week. Look for a much better outing this week...
Calgary - Saskatchewan has scored a grand total of 4 points in the second half of the last two games. That kind of inconsistency won't cut it against Calgary....
Kept up with the pack with a 3-1 week. Better yet, some of the pack dropped off, putting me back in playoff contention. For how long, no idea....
My picks for week 18:
Winnipeg @ Toronto - The Bombers have almost been looking good the last couple of weeks. But almost ain't gonna cut it against the Argos. (Man, I hope I'm wrong on this one.)
Edmonton @ B.C. - The Eskimos? Not so much. Depending on the heroics of one player is not the way to win football. Not that the Lions have been looking much better lately. If they were playing in Edmonton, I might give it to the Eskimos, but not in the bubble.
Montreal @ Hamilton - The Ticats know how to get to Guelph, so they should actually show up this weekend. And now they'll have game film on Smith to review. Lots of game film. And hopefully they'll figure out a solution to the Als' blitz-happy defence. (I really hope this isn't just wishful thinking.)
Saskatchewan @ Calgary - The Riders are an enigma. If the Riders come out to play, it'll be a close game. If not, that horse is gonna git purty tired running back and forth along the Stamps' sideline.
Winnipeg @ Toronto = Toronto wins & clinches division title
Edmonton @ B.C. = B.C. Bounces back and gets on the winning way again
Montreal @ Hamilton = This is a tough one for me. I really don't think Austin has answers for Montreal but I have to go with my heart and pick Hamilton.
Saskatchewan @ Calgary = Calgary shows that they are truly the best in the league.
Well, my last minute change on the Hamilton VS Montreal game, has eliminated any chance of me breaking the top 30 this year. Shoulda gone with my gut!
This weeks picks;
Winnipeg vs Toronto: Toronto - The more rust you get off the future HOF QB, the better the Argos will play. Toronto by 14.
B.C. vs Edmonton: B.C. - Edmonton will make a fight out of this, but BC should win it! BC by 7.
Montreal vs Hamilton: Hamilton - Since Frank Burris played the last game, Henry Burris should show up for this game. Hamilton by 20.
Saskatchewan vs Calgary: Calgary - Calgary has consistently done "whatever it takes" to win this year. Doesn't matter who is hurt, they just keep on winning. They also are not going to hand the Riders the game like BC did last week. All that being said, this is the "tough call" game of the week. Calgary by 7.
Extra Prediction for the week:
Corey Sheets made a big mistake by "calling out" Jon Cornish this past week. Cornish has ALWAYS risen to a challenge from another team or player. Cornish lights up Saskatchewan for 150+ yards. :rockin:
Extra big THANK YOU to BigDave for doing this for us! Just makes the season a little more interesting! Good luck to all the contenders for the play offs!
:cowboy:
P.S. Hoping to talk the boss man into letting me go from work for the weekend, so I can use my season tickets and go to the Calgary vs Sask Game!
