Video Review Must Be Given To The On Field Officials

Well they should ALWAYS explain what the heck is going on after video review damnit! It should not be "sometimes" or leave us with a mass "Huh?"

We need to know without a doubt that the referees are doing their job under that video hood rather than for all we know just licking their chops like dogs for squirted shots of whisky or watching some old fashioned peep show.

So, back to the original topic... anybody watch the Green Bay game last night and still think giving the on field officials the replay would be a good idea?

What a total fiasco.

You give it to a review official OFF the field for all scoring plays like in NCAA football, plus add on all reviewable plays in the last 3 minutes of each half, and leave it at that.

The officials on the field should be forced to go for a bathroom break when the review is done, as it's not like they are not already about to let go in their pants when they make those tough calls.

The game runs ever faster than that for the average official any more including even the top referees as are oddly enough in NCAA football right now. And that's supposed to be amateur ball too?

At least in the NCAA they get more right than in any other league now.

The NFL is a joke even with the best technology and resources to try and compensate for bush league referees for nothing more than greed, and the CFL referees are way too inconsistent from game to game let alone the poor implementation of otherwise adequate replay technology.

They are really screwing up the games folks and it's getting old. :thdn: :thdn: :thdn: And I don't care about college football hardly as much any more anyway!

The CFL Command Centre is doing a terrific job. I've watched every game and they've only blown one call this year, which they apologized for. On this weekend's "fumble", the correct call was made by the ref and CC. The ball did come out but the ball carrier had trapped it against his body when his knee touched down. The ball did not touch the ground until after the play was dead. The evidence was not conclusive enough that the player did not have control of the ball...to overturn the ref's call.

Have you been into Jake Irelands stock of spiked prune juice?

I agree, actually. If, by rule, there has to be enough evidence for a call to be overturned, then I think the right call was made by the Command Centre. Could the player have actually lost the fumbled ball? Possibly. But based on the video replay I saw, it was also possible- if improbable- that the ball carrier maintained possession by trapping the ball after having fumbled the ball.

That an interesting choice of words. Video review is not there to say what’s possible but what did happen as shown by the video review and that was a fumble to all but Jake “Cataract” Ireland.

YES! The guys on the field in Green Bay last night were replacement officials not the regular guys. In other words, guys who would normally be doing High School football. Not anywhere near the normal standard.

I was wondering if they hired Jake Ireland as the video review official for that game.

Well, to compare it with something else, this is why coaches never challenge a quarterback sneak. It’s possible that the quarterback crossed the goal line, or got the first down, but it’s incredibly difficult to say with certainty that he did with only the video replay. Likewise, with the play in question here, the Command Centre probably deemed that they couldn’t say with certainty what did happen, and could only assume what possibly happened, since there were too many players in the vicinity of the play, and no good camera angle to determine whether or not possession was maintained before and/or after fumbling.

The game was in Seattle by the way; not Green Bay - thus mentioning Jake Ireland; come on man…sheesh

Then I disagree with your opinion. I clearly saw that he lost control of the ball before he was down. There was one angle that gave an excellent view of his knee and the ball and in my opinion he did not have control of the ball.

Fans will always disagree with calls, but when it is a weekly discussion about a controversial video review call and even the TSN game announcers are questioning the calls on air that’s a good indication there is a major problem with the system/officials.

Honest mistake, I only saw the highlight and commentary on Sportsdesk, I didn’t watch the game. I hate NFL football.

Fair enough; I don’t hate the NFL and do respect their game. Their game and the field size the players play on is more complex of sorts compared to the CFL game. Doug Flutie’s father put it in perspective when Doug first came to the LIons; In the NFL the coaches teach passing lanes/thus for the receivers in essense is a tough task too.

The replacement refs are mostly from lower college leagues (NAIA and the like). None of them are qualified to referee a professional football game, but they aren’t high school refs.

DIVISION 3 REFS i think… not sure what that is honestly.

anyone remember 5 6 years ago when challenges and instant replay review was non existent.

made for much better games too. the worst thing to happen to football is instant replay reviews.

as for seattle/green bay… yup the packers were screwed but rodgers got sacked 8 times and they only scored 12 points so they didnt really deserve to win really. when u blame the refs and u score 12 points and get sacked 8 times, you are making excuses for why you sucked so bad and not really fixing the real problems which was the terrible game planning by the packers offense.

12 points?! That’s like 50 in the CFL.

From what I hear they probably not High School ref’s. High Schools damn good football down there. Maybe PeeWee?

If you really watched the game including especially the ENTIRE 4th quarter as I managed to do that late, you would see that not only did neither team deserve to win that game but also that far more calls were blown against the Packers than against the Seahawks.

The report I heard weeks ago is that they are Division II (the Roman numeral) referees. That is the third tier of NCAA football as is under FBS (formerly Division I-A) and FCS (formerly Division I-AA). Some of the referees were literally kicked out of the Lingerie Football League too.

I picked the Seahawks to win in an office pool anyway, but the whole thing was disgusting for any true football fan and is a disgrace to pro football. :thdn: :thdn: :thdn:

Even many a commentator including Jon Gruden on air and even the always phoney hack and overly diplomatic dippity-doo Mike Tirico weighed in on the bad call at the end.

I love this blame the victim mentality. Green Bay clearly won the game, and anybody who isn’t blind can see it. They won the game, and the refs blew it. Then they blew it again on the replay. Doesn’t get any more obvious.

Saying “oh they gave up a lot of sacks in the first half and so they deserved to have the refs hand the other team the game” is just goofy.

For those who did not watch the ENTIRE 4th quarter as did I as hard as this game was to watch, note the fine summary here by Aaron Rodgers of how bad it was with the calls and how bad these referees are as well.

And the NFL goes out of its way to stand behind them ...what a bunch of steamin' hot crap! :thdn: :thdn: :thdn:
