EDMONTON – When faced with adversity, like being down 22 points and without the starting quarterback, the veteran presence of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers will help guide the team to victory.
Not going to lie…down 22-0 and with Collaros going down to a late hit (should have been a flag) things looked grim…hats off to Drew Brown, coming in cold with a big deficit…you did good young man…Buck called a great game and obviously has confidence in Drew to keep the playbook open…hoping Collaros will be ok and no long term layoff…proud of our Blue and Gold
I’ve liked Brown’s potential since he came into the league in pre-season games and in the infrequent opportunities in relief.
His thoughtful comments at the end of the game confirmed my impression of him.
As has been stated by a few of the pundits following the game, Brown is better than a few of the current starters and his contract is over at the end of this season. It seems unlikely the Bombers will be able to keep him in free agency next year.
At 26 years old and just coming into his prime as a quarterback, it would be a shame to lose a QB brought in and developed by the club.
It was an awkward hit on Collaros, but it was clean. (Much like the hit that took out BLM earlier this season. ) The refs got it right in a tough non-call.
A flag thrown or not is irrelevant on that play, the result was an injuy to a top quarterback. The aggressiveness of that hit was unnecessary and could have been mitigated or avoided. With the stated focus of protecting QB’s in a league with a short supply of quality players and the majority of starting quarterbacks going down to injury this year, a penalty for unnecessary roughness was warranted in this situation.
As I stated above, the flag would have been irrelevant in the instance but would send another message about unnecessarily aggressive treatment of a scarce commodity.
But it wasn’t dirty, I would say a tad late. Yes he hit him in the head, but Zach was falling forward trying to extend the play. I don’t like the non call be cause I feel less has been called against us, but that means nothing. These penalties are getting stupid. That Tre does run that set up the second elks TD, Jefferson stopped running because he wasn’t sure if Nichols would make the tackle. Why? Donat want to come in late a risk a flag. Tre got away with a full head of steam. The two cents of another armchair football fan.
It is nice to see the Brown can fit into the offence seamlessly. Let’s see what happens should he start next week and how Calgary DC adjusts his play calling.
Happy with life here Soni thought about all things football late at night. NFL CFL and for a brief time how I no longer have time for the asdhats in life… At my age I really don’t care if they feel bad that I no longer have time for the drama they insistbon creating
I was thinking of ways not to get pickpocketed in a crowded foreign place and settled with packing my backpack with plastic grocery bags around any valuable item I might have.
I think Zach has to take some of the blame there, that was a desperate play, something that he never used to do, but something we’ve seen a few times already this year. If he just protected the ball we punt and the lineman wouldn’t have jumped on him like that.
I get people in other countries asking me if I am a cop where I come from. Most people don’t like to mess with cops.
I also carry a wallet with a just a few dollars in it so anything ever happens I would give that one up
Not sure how the hit on Zach wasn’t a penalty, be interesting to see the Leagues defense of the non call. Not that it matters but the amazing TD by Lawler should have had a PI call. Didn’t look like Mitchel actually caught the ball on the long bomb. Dru looked good and hopefully Zach is too hurt.
A couple of things really liked about Dru Brown’s game: 1. Seemed so calm no matter whether a good play or bad play, and 2. His humbleness after the game (and still so calm).
IMO, the hit on Zach was late, considering its a QB. I’ve seen much less of hit (or a hand brush across a QB’s helmet) called. I don’t think it was intentional, just late.
