Vernon Adams, Jr. Destination

Would not surprise me to see Ottawa move on from Brown and go with VA and Masoli if they continue to implode. That is if Burke gets another chance (which he should if they make the playoffs.

CFL contracts are written on toilet paper … unless there is an express guarantee of some sort teams can even cut players to avoid paying off-season bonuses … BC will undoubtedly look to trade VAJ, but if the offers aren’t sufficient releasing him is always an option.

BC has committed guaranteed money, if the offers aren’t sufficient why would they release him and take the cap hit rather than just ship him to the best offer out east and be done with it? Even if they get something it’s better than nothing.

Obviously, if there is guaranteed money they would not cut him … which is why I said “unless there is an express guarantee of some sort”.

No doubt, thankfully there are no Los Angeles Lakers in football, after all.
:smirk:

Will Elks re sign Tre Ford, if not, VA Jr is the only logical one.

well… the only teams that are in need of a QB in reality are Edmonton.

next season, Elks are going to get rid of MBT. Ford is not a Bonafide Starter at this point in his career.

Adams would be a good fit for the Elks style of offense. (this is now assuming that the new owner keeps the current management/coaches)

everyone else has their QB.

A lot probably depends on who the head coach is next year. If they retain Jarious Jackson, he may favour one of the two but someone else would have no loyalty either way. Not even sure they’re settled on GM either so all of that should get worked out beforehand.

Since Vernon Adams is American, is a QB, and has a contract worth $500,000 in 2025, there is a good chance he has an off-season bonus. As he has been in the league long enough to know better, I would think Adams negotiated his deal so that his bonus is due before the start of free agency. In addition, half of his 2026 salary ($250,000) is guaranteed.

So the question becomes: is there more than one team willing outbid the other for his services & also take on that contract? While Adams did play well at the start of the season, he last good game was in July. If the answer is less than 2, any interested team might just wait it out because BC is not going to pay his upcoming bonus.

I dont know much about the finance side but from a football side, I think that unless the old Rourke returns in remaining games, it might be smart to keep VA until training camp. Cause so far, Rourke has sucked and if no better in camp, then Rourke should go

Rourke + VAJ kinda reminds me of the late 50s, early 60s when Ottawa Rough Riders had both Russ Jackson & Ron Lancaster in tow.

In the end - Lancaster, the Little General was traded out west and Jackson went on to be the greatest Canadian QB in CFL history.

Lancaster didn’t do too bad for himself either.

Depends whether it is just an off-season bonus or if there is “guaranteed money” language in the contract (i.e., whether or not released).

Have to believe both JJ Jackson & the current GM are treading on shaky ground. Jackson couldn’t decide who his clear #1 QB was, so he’s already established himself as a positional waffler. The GM has brought in some decent American studs plus some decent canadian draft picks, nothing stellar but slightly above average.
Will those limited abilities turn around the Elks? I can actually see a new regime taking the reins in Edmonton and turning their team on its head, perhaps even trading both MBT & Flash Ford.

Get a QB duo of Vernon Adams, Jr. & someone like Dustin Crumb or Taylor Powell in the #2 spot. MBT is a moody, self-possessed senior citizen while Flash is an undisciplined on-field wildman who can’t run a traditional CFL dink 'n dunk offense.

Even VAJ & Patterson (SK) would be a good QB pizza combo.

Evans was awsome at finishing Masolis drives, those one yard dives and the over the top celebrations really did earn him that starting contract didnt they. Calgary might be a place for VA but it looks like Shiltz could be the starter there in 2025.

Well that settles it… VAJ will NOT be is Sask. This poster has no clue 99.999 percent of the time… Five nines fine proof
