lol they didn't think that one out very good.
well i guess it's fine if were not in it. but i'd rather have it that we are.
Last year was great and the Vanier Cup should be played the same weekend at the same city as the Grey Cup every year so that we can have a true celebration of Canadian football.
Haven't you heard Tigger? You can trade in this year's Vanier Cup tickets for guaranteed Grey Cup tickets next year. They'll just add them on to the 2009 season ticket package.
LOL, I won’t touch this
I’m IN :rockin: With A Win
The games are always good,go support Canadian sports!
Last year was great and the Vanier Cup should be played the same weekend at the same city as the Grey Cup every year so that we can have a true celebration of Canadian football.ABSOLUTELY !!!
I think it would make for an EXCELLENT Tradition and go a long way toward CULTIVATING, and SOLIDIFYING Canadian Football in the hearts and minds of the rest of the UNCONVERTED.
WHY NOT !!??
Peace.
Utter IDIOCY!
A boneheaded, asinine decision by the CIS. Were this league actually concerned about growing the sport, somebody would be fired over this baffling move.
As mentioned above, most football fans who'd be interested in attending the Vanier will be in Montreal that weekend.
I went to the McGill - Queens playoff hockey game last night and walked up to McGill's arena (I passed through Molson Stadium to get there) from downtown: if your hotel is in downtown Montreal along Rene Levesque, we're talking a 20-minute walk to Molson Stadium to watch the Vanier on Saturday afternoon; if you're staying somewhere along Sherbrooke St. near University St., it's closer to a 10-minute walk. A perfect thing to do Saturday afternoon to shake off Friday night.
BOO TO THE CIS! A PLAGUE O'ER THE DULLARDS WHO SIGNED OFF ON THIS!
This is not a decision by the CIS.
The Vanier Cup is, much like the Grey Cup, bid on. The Hamilton group won the bid for the 2008 game.
Last year was the first time the two games were held in the same city on the same weekend in years. It worked for fans who came into town and wanted to check out both games.
If you’re a CIS fan first and foremost the game got buried in the CFL hype.
As for the date of the game, you may remember when Laurier beat U-Sask in 2005 the game was held the weekend after the Grey Cup…it was December 4th or thereabouts. Subsequent to that game the CIS decided that the game was being held too close to exams and passed a rule that the game be held no later than November 30th…hence the earlier date.
There’s NO perfect solution here because the CIS is not appreciated by the average football fan in this country. To solely blame them for the scheduling is misdirected anger.
Cheers.
Michael,
Unfortunately I think the Vanier Cup gets buried no matter where or when it's played. And moving it to Grey Cup Saturday in another city certainly isn't going to help this state of affairs.
20,000 at Molson would be great for the Vanier; 5,000 at Ivor Wynne (I'm sure they'd come up with some bogus attendance figure on account of all the tickets given to Cats seasons ticket holders) does absolutely nothing to grow the game. Honestly, what would SMU - Manitoba draw this year? I say they'd be fortunate to even get 5,000...
Hell, there's a good chance I won't even watch this year's Vanier on TV if there's something else fun going (a likely scenario).
Well, since I love football I love watching the Vanier, watch it every year on TV or in person. Fun to watch being at the game or on TV, the CIS boys put it out on line and provide excellent football entertainment. That is if you're a true football fan.
(I'm sure they'd come up with some bogus attendance figure on account of all the tickets given to Cats seasons ticket holders)I don't disagree with attentance figures maybe being inflatated, however as a season ticketholder I know the organization isn't giving away tickets. We had the option to purchase Vanier Cup tickets for $20 which is suppose to be a discount for season ticketholders. At the point I renewed my tickets in Feb. apparently a pretty good percentage of season ticketholder of taken their tickets.
I think its important to support Canadian University Sports its exciting football.
Wouldn’t mind seeing an Ontario school this year.
Knowing my luck watch Mac be in the Vanier while I am in Montreal! Its called Murphys Law!
Unfortunately Mac is not that good enough on offense to make it to the Vanier. There is too much competition to get these good athletes around here. Out west, there are only a handful of universities that have football programs.
The sad conclusion of the ontario side of canadian university football is that its terriable! The west allow older and better ,stronger players who always kick our butt!Anything can happen on this side.
