Vancouver Whitecaps for sale

Original ownership group in place before their time in MLS.

Curious to see who picks them up and for how much

When the League (MLS) allowed big name Lionel Messi to shun Vancouver when he was due to play and was allowed by the League, I can see why the owners want out

Interesting thought of the team not owning/operating the stadium nor any land that I’m aware of.

Could the new owners be looking at a new venue which I don’t how that’s possible unless the new group owns some land they want to develop.

Not too surprised. Whitecaps get hardly any press out here.

Maybe Ryan Reynolds will buy them…

Greg Kerfoot wasn’t exactly visible as owner at times.

There was talk of a waterfront stadium years back (for the Whitecaps and Lions) but that , I guess, went nowhere.

Theo Henry chose not to play here because of turf.

As for Messi, that might have been the last straw (huge loss in terms of attendance and revenue) for the owners to divest themselves of the franchise.

Maybe Doman can buy them but maybe out his price range (worth $583 million $US as of right now, bought for 35 million $US back in 2011)

Neither the Canucks or Lions appear to be interested in buying the team.

Current ownership is committed through 2025 as there is a lease in place in BC place but nothing beyond it.

I’m thinking relocation. We’ve been through it with the Grizzlies. I’m just waiting for the new owner to sing the national anthem.

The whitecaps organization has never recovered from the women’s team scandal - a lot of people lost respect for them over how that was handled…

Funny side story… apparently one of the radio announcers for the team went to my work a year or two ago and got :poop: faced. The story goes that he got escorted out by the local police with his pants around his ankles… I have my doubts about that last part but allegedly he dropped the "do you know who I am?’ line.

In talks with the city on a new stadium

Lease at BC Place up after this season. Doesn’t seem like a lot of runway but this seems like the only way to keep them in the city

Things that make you go Hmmmmn!

So Another 20K+ seat Stadium is being built in Vancouver by the Whitecaps soccer team(Who are for sale)
Yet
Halifax, Moncton, Windsor, London, QC, etc.,etc. have none.

?? but Halifax, Moncton, Windsor London, QC etc don’t have an MLS soccer team.
And they stated - “in talks with the city” that’s a far cry from approval for another stadium. Sounds like a negotiation for a better lease for BC Place.

Apparently the Whitecaps are for sale
No one would buy them unless they come with a Stadium,
This is why the selling owners want their own stadium,
They want the Whitecaps to stay in Vancouver
but
Potential new owners would want to own a stadium,
not rent one
or at minimum a long term friendly lease

The sale price is in the $500M US range

There is talk of building a soccer specific stadium on the Hastings Race course site.

Would it be Province owned or Owner owned?

Not sure.

Probably one of the reasons they are selling.

Waterfront stadium turned down by the city and/or port authority.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And so far in those cities there’s been zero by way of will which is a disgrace (especially in Halifax )

The stadium itself will be owned by the city but the operation of same would likely go to the Whitecaps or they would be given complete control of revenues for at minimum all soccer matches
