Football preparation for Vanier Cup a labour of love for Queen’s equipment manager

Elgersma in a way lost the game for them. Laurier’s Defense kept giving them a chance to win but he couldn’t reign it in and be mentally strong out there. he made mistakes, made bad choices that cost his team points.

Laval won because they changed their defensive scheme and laid on the pressure… it worked and Laval won by making Elgersma make too many mental mistakes.

Believe Laurier’s RB also had a fumble that did not help their cause.

yes that is true

Exactly.
They get a lotta hating come their way but it’s not their fault they actually give a crap about their football team while others do not.
A few others have pursued the same model and have found some success so it’s time for everyone to up their game if they want to run with the Rouge et Or.

Unlike SFU who ran away by folding their team last minute.

Can’t hire someone like Teresa Hanson whose sole purpose was , and she accomplished it, to gut the football program.

She tried that at UBC but they, fortunately, wised up to her ways.

Money talks…

if other Canadian Universities could get the funding and support that Laval does they would be more capable of fielding good teams.

all you have to do is look at their stadium and you can see.

There was a Northern 8 proposal back in 2015 but the Ontario block held out due to standings and academics.

All others were on board.

Absolutely then get off your duff and go get it. Some have moved in that direction and are seeing success while others just sit and complain

BTG, do you know or does anyone else know if Laval CB Arnaud Laporte who is a dual French-Canadian citizen could be taken in the Global CFL Draft which occurs before the Canadian CFL Draft?

Interesting! I am not sure. I don’t believe this has ever been an issue in the past. The only semi-related example I could think of is Kicker Boris Bede, who is listed as an American because he played for the NCAA despite being born in France and attending Laval in his later years.

My immediate thought would be that Laporte would need to decide ahead of time whether or not he wanted to be considered as a National or a Global player, and then stick with that for his entire CFL career.

If I find out any concrete answer I’ll be sure to update you!

The relevant portion of the CBA is Article 14, Section 6, 7, and 8.

If he lived in Canada for more than 6 out of his first 18 years, then he is ineligible to be a Global player and must be classified as a Canadian.

If not, it’s unclear what his classification is.

Thanks for this. The link below says, " CB Arnaud Laporte - Laval Université (2021-24) / Cégep de Thetford (2019-20) which is 6 years.

What about if he identifies as an “other” Not Global or national.
They need to change the CBA to allow for two spots to be reserved for such players :grinning:

Most people are not in university (or even CEGEP) for 4 years before turning 18.

True, but Arnaud Laporte was in France prior to 2019 from what I am reading.
