Wes Hills, in only 2 games, is the leagues leading rusher with 300 yards and 6 TDs. He had 190 yards yesterday.
MBT is the leagues leading passer and has led New Orleans to 3 straight 4th quarter victories.
Good for him . It certainly looks like he is ripping it up in that league . It would’ve been nice to keep him but unfortunately you can’t keep everybody when it comes to FA .
Glad he’s in NO and not Hamilton East.
I didn’t even know that New Orleans had another team outside of the Saints . I knew that Hill and the Geico man signed in the USFL but never really paid attention as to which team they actually signed with .
I thought Hills signed with Ottawa
He was close, might have even agreed to terms, but opted for the USFL when they came calling.
I think the bottom line is that no matter what for whatever the reason he wasn’t going to re-sign with us for this season regardless .
Do you mean that Hills would not have signed here at any price, or that the team would not have brought him back at any price?
In limited action Hills was the best blocking Ticat RB in recent memory.
A little bit of both actually . I think that Hills being in and out of the lineup splitting time with Jackson the past two seasons and with the team signing Butler in FA he basically saw the writing on the wall . I think that if the team really wanted him back they would’ve went hard after him the moment that Jackson announced his retirement .
Hard to disagree, but it would be interesting to know what led to those decisions.
Hills is 100% driven to get an NFL shot and I’m sure his agent said that his best way back to the NFL was the USFL. Most NFL teams are not interested in CFL running backs , even our All-stars. In terms of why he almost signed with Ottawa, I guess we thought Butler was an upgrade, plus we don’t exactly give our running backs a consitatnt amount of carries over a whole season.
I also noticed a Jalen Morton sighting in there getting some playing time . Our rarely used 4th string QB from last year . Interesting highlights but it would appear that there is some rather obvious less than stellar defense in that league .
That’s true about the lack of carries . I’m pretty sure I heard on that highlight package that ottawacat posted that Hills had over 20+ carries in that game . If he would’ve stayed here he most likely would have had to have played around three games on average to get 20+ carries total combined .

This .
I believe you’ll also find J’Mar Smith in that Birmingham team’s QB room.
He was a Ti-Cat through the '21 training camp, at the end of which he was released and Morten was brought in a month later.
Yup , I remember him as well . He actually started out that 2021 season on our PR for our first 2 games before eventually being released just before our 3rd game . He was also as you said replaced on the PR with Morton as our 4th string QB behind Evans , Masoli and Watford shortly after but never saw any game time
in that 2021 season .
After paying Butler, hard to imagine them paying another American anything more than the league min.
I am curious about the order of events.
Did we think Hills was heading to the USFL so we didn’t offer him a contract and then went after Butler or, did we go after Butler and that caused Hills to look elsewhere?
I think Hills was gone to the USFL either way ( he started a couple games for the Detroit Lions in 2019 and wants back in) , but the fact he almost signed with Ottawa tells me we had already parted ways with him.
