Update on Vaughn Martin and Philip Blake

Looks like Vaughn Martin has lost his job with the Dolphins. Being his fourth season in the NFL, there is a real possibility that we could see him at some point should he choose to play in the CFL.

Martin, who signed a two-year, $4 million deal with Miami in the offseason after playing his first four seasons with San Diego, didn’t leave Sunday’s game against Atlanta with an injury and the team didn’t release details about his mysterious injury. After barely playing in the first two games, Martin appeared in 25 plays in Sunday’s 27-23 win but struggled. Now he is done for the year and the Dolphins will hope that Austin can provide depth.
Philip Blake is on he Cardinals practice roster...

The minimum salary for NFL players has 7 stages (rookie, 1 year of experiance, 2 yrs, 3yrs, 4-6 yrs, 7-9 yrs and 10+ years. As a 4th year player even the veteran minimum is slightly over a $100K more expensive than a rookie. Lots of players get cut in their 3rd and 4th seasons if the team decides they don’t fit in long-term. But as the least he could earn in the NFL is $383K I expect him to exhaust his NFL options.
