I am very angry. The way the careers of two of our best players and citizens has ended as Ticat players, has me wondering if I am going to continue to be a fan. The management had better make up for what they have done or I won't be a fan next season.
You know what they are going to do to make it up to you?
Get (over it).
I think your missing an "h" in your screen name.
Pssst..it's actually a "ch"
I'm as unhappy to see them go as anyone else, but sometimes management has to make the tough decisions. We'll see how it affects the team on June 30th.
ohh. boo hoo, yet another I"m a pissed fan because of a decision made by management... MAYBE it was time to move on.. yes they WERE great for this team but hey the coach's don't know anything do they...I'm sure something will be done so the FANS can honour them
Hey smuck, why do you think these players have been wronged...they honoured these guys by letting them know about this decission a few days ago.....they sat the whole team down and explained there decission to the team, why two great ti-cats were being released..offerd them positions within the organization...aand held a press confrence for them where everyone involved in this organization had nothing but great things to say about them...
Usually when players are released you read about it in the paper..I believe these guys were honoured..Plus they gave them the choice of retiring or being released...I say hats off to the ti-cat organization for the way they dealt with this situation..
Im pissed off to that these players are no longer with the club but thats the way sports work...........
I bet you in the past this situation would have been dealt with differently.... This organization has class and we just wittnessed it today......by the way they let these players leave today....Best of luck to you Rob and Mike in the future, hopefully with this club,,,,,who knows maybe as coaches one day.....could you imagine.....
I know im reaching now
I don't know why fans get so attached to players? This day in age, most guys don't get a chance to play their entire careers in one city. Even Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith moved on to finish their careers. We should all accept the fact that these guys were going to back-ups at best. At the same time we cannot discount what they meant to the team and the city. This is a move in the right direction. A very tough decision to make but the right one!
Good Luck to the both of you....thanks for the good times.
Now time to move on. This is NOW a new era in Tiger-Cats football.
It's official, a new(er) day is upon us. REJOICE! Making the tough decisions is what separates successful organizations from average ones. The interview and the whole process just reeked the perfume of class and professionalism, something that has been missing, something that'll bring great things. These are warriors who wanted to go out on thier sheilds, but thats life. I support this 100%.
KiwiCanuck well said I to support this 100%
You know that old cliche about putting the name on the front of the jersey ahead of the name on the back. You know how fans use it to describe character guys that they hold in high regard because they put the team before their own selfish interests. Guys like Morreale and Hitchcock.
At times like this, fans should maybe use the same credo. There are hundreds of terrific players/people that have stitched their names on the back of a Ticat jersey over the years, but what links all of the them together is the name on the front of the jersey.
For those of us that saw their careers unfold, whatever they end up doing, Morreale and Hitchcock will always be remembered as great Ticats. But they won't be the last.
thanx section8 that made me feel better.
This is a good time to put aside sour grapes and thank these two legends for all they have done for the team and the community.
Its time to move on.
Well said rocky123.
Can we come to an understanding here...say Thursday at midnight we can "move on," whatever than means?
I wouldn't want you guys running a funeral home...LMAO
I get the need to "get over it" (I am, to be sure), but I've read a few posts that could receive the same treatment, i.e.:
PEOPLE ARE STILL SHOCKED/SADDENED/NEED A VENT. GET OVER THAT.
It's not a wake, it's not a death in the family by any stretch. But the Emotions Police can also turn down the volume a tad too.
Friday will be a new day for the Cats in more ways than one. I'm looking forward to it.
Oski Wee Wee,
I THINK IT IS TOTALLY DISRESPECTFUL THE WAY THESE TWO PLAYERS HAVE BEEN TREATED. THEY ARE VERY GIVING OF THEMSELVES TO OUR COMMUNITY AND THOUGH IN THEORY THERE TIME MAY BE UP THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO RUN ON THE FIELD ONE LAST TIME SHOW THERE STUFF ON FRIDAY JUN 22/07 THEY WERE TWO OF THE FEW PLAYERS WHO ACTUALLY SHOWED UP AND PLAYED THEY HEARTS OUT LAST SEASON REGARDLESS OF HOW BAD THINGS WERE. JASON MAAS IS NOT A LEADER HE IS A CRY BABY AND WHO WILL LEAD THIS TEAM NOW. IT TAKES ALONG TIME TO DEVELOP THOSE SKILLS
blah, blah, blah...another first time post full of "CAP" yelling and screaming...like a bunch of spoiled children. Listen to the way Mike and Rob spoke during the press conference and learn...The boys spoke with class and character...so like Russ said...deal with it...
I agree with all the nice things...that are said about Rob and Mike....they are first class guys...
But there is a time in pro-sports...when you no longer...'fit' the direction of the team.
Regardless of how 'long' you have been there....
Sometimes...players...don't know...when to hang it up.
Look at Allen....as an example.......
Looks like he will try to stay playing...until he gets hurt....real bad. Or starts to look like the high school QB......
No disrespect intended here....but come on...
Age is something...no one can hide from.
Please watch the press conference video. Please listen to Rob and Mike. It's clear that they aren't pitchforking the club. They get the "big picture."
Could this been handled differently? Under your scenario, you would have Rob and Mike suit up AFTER being told they were going to be cut?
"Hey guys, we know you aren't performing seals, but we'd like you to bail us out here."
If it were me, I wouldn't risk injury if I had any inkling I might want to play somewhere else this year.
Would the team get on the P.A. and say "Hey folks, this is going to be Rob and Mike's last game as Ticats. Let's give them a hand before we escort them out stage right!"
Ummmm...get out the dancing girls because that would be one UGLY fan reaction.
Or would they play -- not knowing it was their last game STILL -- and tell them after? What then?
No matter what the scenario, it would not be pretty.
I understand the frustration and sadness, but in a calm moment, I think most will understand that this situation has been handled about as well as it could have been once training camp had begun.
Oski Wee Wee,
