Twitter links / one boxes

not sure how many of you are aware of such things, but mr Elon Musk is doing stupid things with his toy twitter and now he is disabling free twitter api's so our oneboxed twitter links may at some point start to fail. so just a heads up that it's possible you may have to use a text twitter link soon and the onebox previews for twitter may stop working properly. some Discourse forums are getting notices from twitter that their api will be blocked unless they start paying minimum $100 per month.

technical note: API = application programming interface and it is simply a software configuration that lets two applications communicate and pass data between each other. in this case it is Discourse (our forum in particular) and twitter.

Elon trying to convince people twitter is cash strapped when he is the one who strapped it. dude is not short on money.

What a racket! Good thing for me I’ve never been on Twitter except for following links on this forum. No great loss.

if this does happen, i have a fix ready to go that will at least let us box the links going forward. if the twitter api gets turned off it will however, probably break the existing one box twitter links. so far there has been no indication yet that we are affected but i know of a number of Discourse forums that are.
