Former Ticat OL Wayne Smith reportedly has ruptured his left Achilles tendon and will miss the entire 2009 season. The fact the Cats ironically gained Dan Goodspeed in a three-way deal from the Bombers via the Riders makes this loss even worse for Riderville.
The Tabbies have added to the depth on the O-line through their acquisition of Goodspeed and Gauthier as well as the drafts of promising rookies Simeon Rottier and Zac Carlson. It will be interesting to see how the Riders address this roster issue in the coming weeks -- possibly seeing former Cat Jordan Rempel emerge as a bigger factor in their immediate O-line plans.
There is also a report on the Winnipeg Free Press website about Wayne Smith’s injury. He is undergoing surgery tonight. Best of luck to Wayne Smith for a full recovery.
The other half of the Wayne Smith + Mr DJ Flick trade was Rocky Butler...... I almost thought you were thinking about getting Rocky back for training camp. Rocky didn't even get onto our All-time Roster .
