The Wreck of the Saskatchewan Rough Riders
The legend lives on from Thompson on down
of the great team they call the Big Blue.
Their offense is great and there is no debate
The defense must be given their due.
With an early season surge – they began to emerge
Young, strong, tough smart and burley
That team good and true were a feisty young crew
When the gales of November came early.
The team was the pride of the Canadian side
With players from B.C. to Wisconsin
As big O lines go they were bigger than most
With a coaching crew well and seasoned.
They stumbled a bit late but the coach got irate
And they righted the ship in good time.
The playoffs came ‘round and we knew pound for pound
They’d play tough and give no ground.
So the Allouettes came and the results were the same
As the final game of the year.
a two point win, a margin a little too thin
For the Argo’s they’d have to find a new gear.
So they headed out east to tackle the beast
And lay claim to the eastern title.
Then is was said that they wouldn’t score ten
But they beat Hogtown by that much with Glen.
But misfortune came then when they lost Kevin Glen
With a badly broken arm.
He went down near the end and some thought my friend
That the crew has sold the farm.
We know better than that, 9 lives has a cat
And the Big Blue must have that too.
They’ve still got Dinwiddie, the best in the city
And he’ll pilot this crew through and through
And when they’re all done having their fun
The cup will reside in the ‘Peg.
The old Green and White, will be a sad sight
When the Blue and Gold hoist the Keg.
