Training camps postponed indefinitely

From what I have read I anticipate a gradual lifting of restrictions on businesses, crowds, etc. I think that allowing large crowds at any sporting event would be the last restriction to be lifted - as it has the greatest chance of doing harm to people. In fact my fear is that those large crowd sporting events might not be allowed again until a vaccine is available for the general public some time next year. :disappointed_relieved: :stadium:

Of course another problem would be the anti-vaxxer morons who don’t get vaccinated because they believe what they’re told on the innernet by "scientists " living in their mothers’ basements . My social distancing solution would be to send the morons to Siberia and let God sort it out .

I would prefer Antarctica but Siberia works as well. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

My gut says, and I am guessing, there will be a shortened 8-12 game season starting in September or even October if needed, with the Grey Cup pushed forward a couple of weeks. The main reason I think this is because the CFL, more then many other pro leagues, needs some sort of season to be able to generate some revenue in order to survive. There is an interesting video posted today on Sportnet.ca about the leagues survival and ironically, they conclude that the three teams that currently lose the most money ,Montreal, BC and Toronto, would be the least hurt by a complete shutdown, as they might actually lose less money in a cancelled season.

(The video is called "Could the CFL survive a suspended season", the link provided won't go directly to the video)

My goodness GiasoneItaliano, Sportsnet saying Montreal, Toronto and BC could actually save money by not playing is a scary thought. Kind of like banging your head against the wall because it feels so good when you stop?

Sportsnet isn’t exactly the greatest source when it comes to Canadian football in general and the CFL in particular .

All the hypotheticals (pay if no games, free agency, draft, etc.) will be worked out between the CFL and the CFLPA as both sides have "a horse in the race" ... if the CFL fails the jobs disappear ... if the players push for "the letter of the law/CBA" the CFL fails ... etc ... etc ... etc

All will be well as long as the lawyers stay out of it. :slightly_smiling_face:

Lawyers and agents. Might be like keeping sharks out of a feeding frenzy?

Lawyers only ever take instructions from client - they don't act independently. I don't believe agents are any different. If the league is going to survive, everyone (players, management and ownership) will need to cooperate.

Nowhere I'd rather be on a warm summer night than at THF with all of you jokers, but I can't see it happening this year. At best I see the teams playing empty stadiums - but I'm not sure that works.

8-10 game tournament style season starting in October played all at BC Place to no fans but aired on TSN every week. Grey Cup in December at BC Place.
Problem solved. Your welcome.

Will TSN be willing to bankroll all the expenses for this tournament - salaries, living accommodations, etc.?

I was being a bit sarcastic, but I think TSN would get good ratings for this at the very least.

Sorry for not recognising the sarcasm. I agree TSN's ratings would be very high. :slightly_smiling_face:

Antivax and conspiracies? Got a niece like that. Sigh.....

Don't forget that in Oct/Nov the CFL could be likely going up against every Major sport.

NFL
NBA/NHL
The Masters/Ryder Cup
MLB
Curling Canada Cup
And more...

Don't expect TSN to bend over backwards for the CFL.

Earlier this week, the CFL said "No games before July, at the earliest."
Now, that my have suddenly changed to before September, at the earliest, unless the Alouettes start their season on a very long road trip.

I think it's time people start looking at reality. We're probably not playing football this year, and next year isn't a certainty. (But much more realistic).

People won't want to go to games (in a gate driven league) without a vaccine. And frankly I'm one of them. Zero interest.

And the CFL can't play with no fans.

I think you are correct Crash. I don't anticipate any CFL games in 2020.
