Training Camp 2025: Offensive Line

Decided to break down Camp hopefuls by position, looking at numbers, nationality, age and background. Hopefully this makes it a little easier to follow what is going on through training camp, we are likely to see some changes to these lists in the last week.

Offensive Line:

Currently there are sixteen players under contract that should be at camp of which five will be at their first CFL camp.

5- National (1 Rookie)
10- American (5 Rookies)
Youngest 22, oldest 30
Departures 2 (Theo Grant, Philippe Gagnon, Kristian Matte)

As we can see 2 Nationals were added to replace the two departures. and five American rookies were brought in to compete for Tackle positions, This is likely where the most ferocious camp battles will be to get a spot on the Roster or PR at camp

You sure about this? Callender dressed for all 18 games in 2024 and my recollection is that he was always the starter at LT, except for the occasional short-term in-game injury. McGloster only dressed for 1 game in 2024 due to injury and that was after Donovan got injured.

Edit: I do like splitting TC battles into threads by position. Nicely done.

Thanks for the corrections. Made changes to the post. I figure it will make it easier to follow training camp by breaking it down by position groups. I’ll add dated notes to the individual players as they happen through camp from status and the reports from the gang.

You could also add K Matte as a departure from last year.

I don’t see him on the roster yet, but you can add American OL Jarrett Horst from Michigan State, added yesterday as per CFL Transactions.

We have both a huge number of American o-linemen and a number of huge American o-linemen. :grinning_face:

Donovan is not ready, McGloster has had back issues, if going American at guard need competition for Ventrelli. I guess they’re being proactive.

That’s someone who I’m really intrigued in. Did some research yesterday on him and he has a mean part in him what we miss except for Lestage

Je ne peux m’empêcher d’extrapoler à propos de ces très nombreuses signatures de joueurs de lignes offensives cette année, que cela n’est pas seulement pour assurer une protection digne de mention à Alexender c’est-à-dire procurer une attaque aérienne hors pair, mais également favoriser un meilleur jeu au sol.

Pour l’attaque au sol, ce sera selon moi papier collé de ce que l’on a vu l’an passé. Cela ne signifie pas que l’attaque sera moins productive, mais pour un amateur " vintage" comme je suis, une attaque balancée ( 65-35%) est toujours plus agréable à regarder. Voilà tout.

J’ai hâte de connaître la semaine prochaine, l’alignement des unités 1,2,3 à l’offensive, à la défensive et des membres des unités spéciales.

Thanks for the update on the old line in Montreal
As you know Jessie Gibbon is a friend of my nephews

You sure? I like Gibbon, but if, as you say, the team is preparing Shanks to be the sixth O-lineman, and we also have Saindon in the fold, where does that leave Gibbon?

He might well make the team but I do not think he’s a lock this year.

Donc si 3 américains sur la ligne offensive: 2 N comme réguliers: J. Lawrence et PO lestage et 2 substituts donc 4 pour alignement pour 6 joueurs disponibles au total.

J. Gibbon est dans l’équation pour ses deux (2) postes de substituts, mais la compétition sera forte et difficile contre un ancien libre signé par les Alouettes et un ancien choix au repêchage G par Alouettes. Présentement sur papier il serait 3/4 après C. Hogan-Saindon et T. Shanks mais le football ça se joue sur le terrain.

J’ai hâte de voir le nouvel alignement final des Alouettes pour le 6/06 et pour la ligne offensive, le côté droit de la ligne et les remplaçants N.

Gibbon, at this point, will be entering his sixth year in the league, and he’s 28. Yet the team still doesn’t see him as a starter, giving 24-year-old Ventrelli the nod at RG at the outset of training camp.

Voici un article du 21/05/24, sur la signature de Donny Ventrelli avec les Alouettes et sur sa carrière avec l’université North Dakota.

Pour les Alouettes, la saison 2025 est celle de changements majeurs à l’offensive :

  • nouveau qa numéro 1 Davis Alexander

  • Changement du ratio de joueurs américains sur la ligne offensive, passant 2 à 3. D. Ventrelli, 6´4 300 livres 24 ans de l’université North Dakota, a joué dans la division 1 FCS de la NCAA, est un candidat de qualité, 50 parties comme débutant soit comme garde ou bloqueur. Il est à sa deuxième année avec le club, après une année sur l’équipe de développement mais a été habillé pour deux (2) parties dont une comme débutant, comme garde à droite.

  • la seule inconnue dans ce changement de ratio c’est l’arrivée et la tenue de Tiger Shanks 6´5 325 livres 23 ans N, choix numéro 5 de la première ronde 2025 des Alouettes, 51 parties comme débutant au poste de bloqueur UNVL qui joue dans division 1 FBS de la NCAA.

-la NCAA football comprend 3 divisions: 1,2,3: D. Ventrelli A et T. Shanks N ont joué les deux dans la division 1 avec 50 parties, chacun comme débutant pour leurs universités respectives mais pour la LCF avec son ratio de joueurs canadiens, T. Shanks N est un atout très important, à quel niveau d’apprentissage et à quelle vitesse , son talent le mènera-t-il chez les Alouettes, comme débutant bloqueur offensif du côté droit?

  • une chose est certaine, les Alouettes veulent améliorer le jeu de leur ligne offensive, diminuer le nombre de sacs, meilleurs blocs sur le jeu au sol, pour donner à D, Alexander, jeune qa. à sa première année professionnelle, une ligne offensive 2.0 du côté droit, en 2025 pour maximiser ses talents et les résultats de l’attaque.

Tiger Shanks have à played in a way better division then Vantrilli though who played more in a D1 AA
