Trade with Winnipeg

I'm thinking we should deal one our q.b's to Winnipeg since they have done nothing about their q.b situation. If Glenn goes down they have nobody just like last year. So who do they have that we need and which q.b should we part with?

how about Butler for Brazzel and Khan.

Or Butler to Sask for D.J Flick and Wayne Smith.

The title of your thread is misleading. It suggests that a trade has already been made with Winnipeg.

Anyway, I've also thought about how we could get something for one of our QB's. I think Montreal is a more probable destination, probably for Butler. If Calvillo goes down, Brady is their backup, and we all know how good Brady is. The Alouettes have two 1st round picks in next year's draft (they fleeced Tillman out of the Riders' first round pick next year in a very lopsided trade about a week ago). So why don't we trade Butler to Montreal for their extra 2008 first round pick? I think Popp would go for it.

Are you crazy? Popp is not going to trade a 1st round pick for a QB we'll probably end up cutting.

maas for flick and smith

Ya, if you think its a good idea to trade one of the best players at camp so far.

So his shoulder is 100%? that is good to here, I’m glad Ron Lancaster isn’t the team doctor.

I think there is a rule that you can’t trade a player twice in a season (a to-and-back kind of swap). Facetiousness is allowed, however.

Oski Wee Wee,

I have never thought that he was that good . He had one good year 3years ago. Since day one here he look bad .
I am a die hard hamilton fan but I do not believe Maas is the QB to take this team to the playoffs.

Time will tell. Taaffe has a great rep re his work with quarterbacks. It is Maas's job to lose...and if he falters, HE WILL LOSE IT. Charlie will go with whatever other combination can yield results.

We’re competing with Winnipeg in the East so why worry about helping them and they won’t give up Khan regardless. Let the QBs compete with a head coach and coordinator known for their work with QBs so we’re as strong coming out of camp as we can be at the position.

They’d also be helping us, and if they did lose Glenn for a month or so then they’d be desperate and would probably be willing to give up a lot.

Butler will never be cut due to politics, you don’t trade 2 of your best players for someone then cut him after camp.

although Flick and Smith probably would've been cut here due to their high priced salaries.

I think Marcel knows what hes doing. Look at the cuts/trades that he made and look where those guys are now

You do if you're able to sign King and Chang after the trade. Butler was a safety pick up just in case other QB's weren't signed. On top of that if you have been at camp you would notice Butler is injuried and has hardly thrown since before the weekend, so his chances are even weaker.

Then why do that trade in January? You do the opposite of what you just said, try and sign and aquire those other guys, if not then you make the trade.

Clearly, we are going to disagree on this but then again you did suggest we trade Butler for Brazzel and Khan and we all know that would never happen.

You do the trade in Jan for several reasons:

  1. Smith and Flick are probably due roster bonuses between the time of the trade and camp, so if you arent going to keep them why pay them bonuses.

  2. Insurance. If you have Rocky your demand to fill the position decreases. In turn you dont ‘need’ King or Chang but it’s good to get them if available.

  3. Chang has been difficult to sign so you dont just assume you can wait to pick him up.

  4. King has been on the ticats neg list for years. On top of that you only signed him with in the last two weeks.

  5. You can’t wait until a month before camp to fill your QB position. The demand to pick up a guy to fill the QB spot that teams and players could ask for anything.

They made the trade when the trade could be made. Get the player before someone else does. GM's work 365 days a year talking deals and stuff the opportunity to get Butler came up and Marcel took it.

Its insurance, why not pick him up and if you cannot use him, you can trade him. It is no secret that Winnepeg and Montreal lack in QB depth who cares if they are both in the east. We are in the better spot to benefit more from the trade if it were to happen.

I cannot see them cutting Butler either, they paid for him they need to get back what they paid for him in a trade cutting King, Chang or Williams is a more viable option because their value is low, they are unproven.

Butler is proven and has a worth to I am sure more than just Hamilton.

On a 4-14 team, there are no “best players”…and even if there were Smith certainly isn’t one of them, he wasn’t even playing first string by the midpoint of the season. And if Flick is one of your “best players” then that says your receiving corps was pretty weak last year.

And on that note, check out the Edmonton threads; one training camp observer was commenting about their receivers, and he noted that Kamau Peterson has been dropping catchable passes. Some things never change, I guess!

I’m shocked to here that.

Let's see... Smith was injured last year, and Flick hardly got any passes thrown to him. Wait a minute - do ya think that could be Paopao's offencive scam (I mean, scheme) that totally ignored WR's? Maas' injury, Eakin's inability to connect with anyone?

In the 2 games in which Flick will play us, I'm expecting HUGE numbers for him...
