Toronto in danger

You might right be about that 'beagle! Though it seems that the Argos are set to go with rookies. I still think Dinwiddie could help them, if only on a part time basis. The guy does have some experience after all, even if he didn't set the league on fire.

the argos entire season rides on at least one of these pivots stepping forward. nothing else matters if jim gambled wrong. then again there was no alternative that gave this team a true shot.

Or not stepping forward in the truest sense of the term. Maybe for at least one year we might see some rotating qb's in Toronto to all get the experience and in year two or near the end of this year, one shines forth as the main guy. I don't know. In this way, at least you've given a couple or 3 some experience to work with for next year.

I like to point out that I was talking about the need for the Argos for «stability». Jim Barker changed jobs frequently through is career and as the tendency to take too many chances. I did say he is a competent coach.

The hiring of Jim Barker does bring stability to the Argos. Look at the circumstances prior in Toronto & Calgary, he had no choice but to change jobs. He left Montreal after helping with the GC so he could have a chance to be a head coach. Most assistant coaches go that route.

The article is the same conventional wisdom that seems rampant on all CFL fan boards these days. The condensed version, for those of you who stopped reading: "The Argos sucked last year, they hired a crappy coach and they have no QBs with CFL experience so they are going to suck again."

Yawn.

Agreed, that’s all I hear from the whiners. And some Argo fans. NFL rejects, Barker sucks, bring back Bishop who has proven to win nothing.

I remember when BC Signed an NFL reject back in 1990, he turned out alright. I personally like what Barker has done so far, is it going to work, who knows. But at least he is make changes.

The Argos would either have to make a trade with the Riders, or wait until the Riders cut him… there will only be 4 QBs going to main camp, so my guess Dinwiddie is the odd man out…

Personally I am will to give Bell, Hamdan, Lemon, Brannagan and even Dorsey a shot before bring in Dinwiddie and his 58.2% completion percentage, for 1,581 yards, 6 Touchdowns and 9 Interception, and a Passer Rating of 73.8.

Hear hear, couldn’t agree more.

Funny how short peoples memories are. Riders sucked for 20 years straight and were turned around instantly with Tillman and Austin. You never know in this league and with imports moving back and forth and teams having to cut quality guys due to SMS you can go from perennial loser to GC winner like the Riders did pretty much overnight.

I applaud Barker for looking to BUILD Toronto a football team instead of going through other teams discarded talent.

“who are we?” Lets see…Toronto is a city that wants the best, but doesnt neccessarily deserve it. Baseball- MLB, Blue Jays, best baseball in the world. Not supported. NBA- Raptors. Best baseketball in the world. Good support for winning team, poor support for a struggling one. NHL- Leafs- Best hockey in the world. Not as well supported as people think, empty seats abound in the ACC on Leaf game days nowadays (though the seats are sold). Bills in Toronto, supposedly the best football, NOT supported. Free tickets and empty seats abound. In all honesty I feel the Argos are the best supported “main 4” sport team in the area. Argo tickets are not cheap, besides chain discount seats in the endzone the cheapest ticket is $33. Most expensive is 200 level at $79. 26,000 per game with these prices and a football team my dead grandmother could beat is pretty decent support if you ask me.

I think one of the biggest problems the argounauts have had the last few years is a star canadian or hometown hero. sure once and awhile they will get an aging star canadian through free agency, but by my memory the last all star canadian that they drafted was paul masotti and he hasn't been on the field for what, around 10 years?

i am not saying that that is the key to bringing in fans and financial success, but i would say it is a good analogy for their woes. just look at canadians who have been drafted (receivers have the most success) in last decade that have become huge fan favorites and bonafide stars to there teams: jason clermont, paris jackson, andy fantuz, doug brown, ben cahoon (i know he has been around longer than a decade) and these guys may become star players anytime soon chris bauman, rob bagg, chris getzlaf.

i guess what i am saying is that the argos (not unlike the leafs) try and go for the quick fix instead of drafting some players that the fans can truly cheer for and that may have a connection with. also they need to kill all that loud annoying music in the rogers centre and let the fans get into the game and start cheering.

Adam Rita should have been fired two years ago. Sometimes a nice man but no work ethic what so ever. He parties, drinks with his buddies and ignores tough decision and doing the hard work. What a shame because he has put the CFL in jeopardy and really does not care. He is an american who really could care less - it is a job only to him not a cultural treasure that most Canadians cherish. Fire him now owners. Bobby Ackles called a spade a spade and proved he could turn around franchises in the CFL and NFL - Ackles has credibility and may have saved the league by saving the BC lions. Fire Rita's arse and get rid of this dead weight. He is a party guy who has no loyalty to the league. May be a good drinking buy but a disaster and anchor to the league. Just ask around.

:thdn:

my last sentence in the above post should read "... maybe a good DRINKING BUDDY ... my keys are sticking on this old relic of a computer.

sure blame it on your ‘old relic of a computer’ just admit you were hangin’ with rita last night.

By Rita I assume you mean a bottle of Jim Beam?

With Braley now around, I'm sure Rita will shape up or else he'll be shipped out as they say.

I’ve always pictured him with a bottle of cough syrup and a bag of contact cement.

My question is, when has adam rita had success? more as a GM i would say because i know he won a cup as a coach of the argos in 91. but was that even an anomaly?
