Toronto gets a Turd Stadium

The problem with the Rogers Centre is that it is too big for the Argos for their regular season games. It is fine when there are 35,000+ people in there for a football game and the place has atmosphere.

Sure they have to cover a bunch of lower rows behind the benches with a tarp and seats near the 50 yard line are a bit further from the sidelines than ideal - but when it has a big crowd it is just fine for football. I’ve been to Grey Cups, some Argos playoffs games, a couple of the International Bowls, a Vanier Cup and yes even a couple of Bills games that had quite good atmospheres with 35,000 +. Nobody was complaining about the venue after those games. (other than the Bills because it was too loud at time for the ‘visiting’ teams for their liking).

Heck the same is even true for baseball and the Jays. Some seats are not ideal for baseball and it can seem a bit like a morgue at times with some small weeknight crowds but you get a decent crowd in there and the experience and atmosphere are just fine. I was there yesterday and they had almost 30,000 in there and it was great and today’s game should be rocking - I hear it is a sell out. I think the best sports crowd I’ve ever been a part of was a World Series game there when Joe Carter hit the series winning home run. That was INSANE. And today with the $200 million plus that Rogers have poured into that place (after buying it for next to nothing) the amenities and condition of it are still very good.

The problem is too many Argos games only draw in the 18,000 range - many often seemingly not that engaged because something about staring at 30,000+ empty seats has a way of sapping energy. They’ll be fine once they get to BMO which even now has perfectly comfortable plastic seats with all kinds of legroom (I was just there last week for a TFC game and there really is above average legroom). Once the concessions are expanded, washrooms and new video boards added and the upper deck to the east stands and roof over the fan areas it will be just fine. Not luxury, not extravagant but certainly very acceptable for football and soccer both. Just look at the ACC - MLSE do not do things on the cheap, I have no reason to expect their $100 million + in improvements to BMO will be done on the cheap either.

Yes I am extremely happy that ml$e is doing the renos to bmo field and not a guy like David Braley who would do everything on the cheap it should be a good venue for the Argos when they are done. I agree with you that skydome isn’t to bad of a place to watch a game besides some of the seating not being the greatest. If the Argos had a owner/CEO who would try to concentrate and put more work and effort into trying to sell tickets to the games it wouldn’t be so bad then the crap atmosphere that you get now for going to Argo games. Any Argo fan would admit to when c&s owned the team skydome was a great place to watch a Argo game.

I hated the venue even when there was 50,000 plus at the 100th Grey Cup. But that's just me. Baseball first stadium, yikes, no thanks, the Argos and any football team anywhere that actually cares about football and their football team should want that unless they just want to say "look at us, we are in a "big league", in this case, MLB, venue" and pretend they count". Come on 1991 and true Argo fans, you should be way better football fans than that. As I say, I yikes! Don't settle for anything less than a football first venue or else I have a difficult respecting how much of football fans you Argo fans really are to be honest. :o

Argo fans, take your cue from Roger Goodell who wants football first stadiums, he said Toronto has “stadium issues”. Enough said, take the cue… Be a football fan and understand what football deserves - a football first venue. Don’t get fooled by fancy first baseball first stadium, Argos deserve more than that and I know you have to agree when you actually think about it.

Using cow dung for bricks avoids the environmental damage caused by the traditional means of digging up clay. EcoFaeBrick supposed to be 20% lighter and 20% stronger than clay brick.

Thanks for the interesting read Evil, but personally, I would still pass on the dung stadium. :lol: How would the bathrooms work? :lol: Where would you sit? :lol: Would u need to place one of those paper rings on every seat before you sat down? I can’t even imagine the food prep situation. Also, would not envy the construction crew on that particular project… :lol:

I preferred watching games at Lansdowne, and the south side stands there were bleachers. Closer to the action than at the dome, though. Plus it was pretty ruckus up there (unlike the boring north side, which sucks ).
