Top 20 Ticat passing yardage performances since 2005

Some discussion on Ken Peters' blog got me curious about the biggest yardage per game totals for Cat QBs over the last few years.

The CFL website has game stats only going back to 2005. Based on their numbers, here are the top 20 single game passing totals by Hamilton QBs since 2005 (sorted by yards passing, highest first):
(Note that the "week" column refers to the week number in the CFL schedule for that year)
(The forum software here seems to insist on removing whitespace, so the layout looks ugly, but I've tried to compensate by putting the yardage to the left of the QBs' names)

Ugggh.... and we can easily see how badly this team has played over the last 4 years.... when 220 yards is in the top 25% of passing games and only 6 of the top 20 went for over 300 yards. No wonder everyone sat up and took notice last week.

And how can you forget the single Ticat's game passing record.

--- Anthony Calvillo 542 yards - Oct. 25, 1996

I believe Danny McManus passed for over 500 yards in one of the opening games in 2004 when we had a good start under Greg Marshall.

Danny McManus 525 yards June 25, 2004

That D Mac was a lean (not that lean) mean (not that mean) passing machine.

wow, only 6 games ovr 300 yards passing in the last 4 seasons, and Maas has 3 of them!

how bout as a team? have there been some combined qb 300 yard efforts besides the single qb ones?

ya but he was holding this offence back and once they shipped him out we sure caught fire!!!

As it turns out, yes. Here are the combined per game passing yardage totals that exceeded 300 yards (I also threw in the next few below 300 for perspective). For games with multiple passers, see the number in parenthesis after each passer's name for his contribution:

Year	Week	Yards	QB(s)
2005	10	440	McManus
2008	15	429	Porter
2005	18	407	Eakin (407), Boreham (0)
2006	15	388	Maas
2006	6	374	Maas
2005	6	370	McManus (191), Brady (160), Boreham (19)
2007	5	341	Maas
2005	13	332	McManus (164), Khari Jones (111), Brady (57)
2005	16	315	Brady (240), McManus (75)
2008	13	305	Porter (183), Printers (110), Setta (12)
2007	3	303	Maas (211), Chang (92)
2008	7	299	Williams (293), Porter (6)
2006	4	278	Maas (278), Fleming (0)
2008	3	267	Printers

thanks, prolly a pain looking that up.

One other fun/incidental thing I noticed glancing over these stats:

The last time a non-QB, non-kicker Ticat attempted a pass was in week 2 of 2006.

Corey Holmes was 0/1 for 0 yards passing.

You're just lucky your question piqued my curiosity. Plus the computer does most of the work. The only significant hassle was pulling the original game stats into a spreadsheet, which I had done for my original post anyway. (And to any RDBMS snobs out there, I was this close to installing MySQL to do the number crunching )

safetyblitz, thanks for a great read. It's posts like this that make the forum a fun destination.

I agree. :rockin:

Can we persuade you to do the same for rushing yardage? Please and thanks. <!-- s:D -->:D<!-- s:D -->
